Pianist/composer Thijs Cuppen was born in Deurne, The Netherlands and started playing piano at the age of 4. After having played a lot of classical music he chose to study psychology from 1994-1999. During that time he developed a fascination for jazz and decided to study jazz piano at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam (1999-2003), where he got lessons from Rob Madna, Rob van Bavel and Karel Boehlee.
Thijs became finalist at the famous Dutch Jazz Competition twice.
At this moment he plays with Daniel Samkalden, theater tour coming up in 2007/2008 and Susanne Alt Quartet. He also does a lot of freelance work. Besides that he's teaching at the Theater school of Amsterdam.
