Who are Third Stone From The Sun?
The sound of Jimi Hendrix music not only defined a time, but also transformed music forever. The influence of his music and transcending guitar style is echoed in bands of every generation since Hendrix’s untimely death. The great news is that the multi-generational effect of Hendrix’s music can be experienced first-hand when listening to a performance from the Santa Cruz quartet Third Stone From The Sun.
Third Stone From The Sun is an exciting new band from Santa Cruz who reproduce the sound of Jimi Hendrix in live performance in stunning detail. Blaine Neagley, the groups bassist explains, “Jimi Hendrix left a unique and exciting body of work that is challenging to reproduce live...Hendrix’s popularity has amazing staying power, and spans generations, but it is not every day you get to experience his music live.”
The band is fronted by vocalist Jason Webb, a new face on the Santa Cruz scene. Jason’s experience as actor and singer brings the drama and soul of Hendrix’s vocals to the stage. The guitar work is handled mightily by standout strat-man Kevin Rafferty, who has 10 years of playing professionally under his belt. Bassist Blaine Neagley’s life-long love affair with music enables him to lay down solid melodic groundwork, and drummer Mike Santaella’s imaginative style and driving feel are the result of years of backing tight rock bands. Together these four are reproducing live the rare and moving sounds of Hendrix’s music.
The members of Third Stone From The Sun are fused together by a mission to recreate the sound and the power of Jimi Hendrix in live performance. With the assistance of vintage equipment, an ear for detail, and a whole lot of soul, Third Stone From The Sun has tapped into another dimension and resurrected the spirit of Jimi - and they are drawing crowds as diverse as the band itself. “People are drawn by the energy, they are drawn by the nostalgia, they are drawn by the joy and pain released in the unrelenting Hendrix style,” says Jason Webb, lead vocalist.
