Thraenenkind was founded in 2007 by Nathanael and Pesten. First songs were written soon and in 2008 the first demo-cd was recorded. 2009 the first live gig was played. Since summer 2009 new material for upcoming releases was written. In 2010 the demo CD was re-released as an EP and shortly afterwards the split-CD with Heretoir was released. 2012 Nils joined as new singer. In summer 2013 the debut album "The Elk" was released. Sputnik Music Review of the Heretoir/Thränenkind Split: "At times, anticipation can be a double edged sword. On one hand, when the object in question matches or surpasses your expectations, it can be the most gratifying feeling in the world. On the other hand, when the results of your wait are less than stunning, it feels almost as if the letdown was personal, a farce to get your hopes up just so they can be smashed into the ground. In 2008, German brother bands Thranenkind and Heretoir both released their debut demos, Eine Momentaufnahme - Der Rest ist nur Einsamkeit and Existenz , which easily brought both bands to the forefront of the post-black metal scene. Since then anticipation has been high for follow-ups and in March 2010, the bands delivered, releasing the excellent split album Wiedersehen - Unsere Hoffnung , a combined effort that sees both groups reaching their artistic peaks... Although dubiously categorized under "post-black metal", both Thranenkind and Heretoir incorporate a range of influences that far outstretch the boundaries of the genres usual fare. Combining the likes of black metal, shoegaze, post-rock and even emo would never be an easy feat, yet Thranenkind and Heretoir successfully and cohesively conjoin these genres together in a manner that is nothing less than awe-inspiring. The juxtaposition is probably best seen on the joint and titled track "Wiedersehen - unsere Hoffnung", where the black metal screeches of Thranenkind's Nathanael and Heretoir's Eklatanz clash with the jubilant melodies of emo, in the mellifluous structures of shoegaze. The albums instrumentalists Nathanael, Pesten (Thranenkind) and Eklatanz (Heretoir) never aim to impress with a high level of technicality; instead they rely on an overly simplistic approach, rich with an overflowing abundance of palpable, real emotions. Whether it be the mournful piano driven and cello laden piece "Niemehr" or the elating "Posthuma" (which features a reprisal of Thranenkind's self titled track off last demo Eine Momentaufnahme - Der Rest ist nur Einsamkeit ) each piece off the record is extremely emotionally driven. If more a fan of aggression, Heretoir track "Graue Bauten", offers a more black metal derived sound is a stark contrast to the albums other songs. Both young, and both with obvious bright futures ahead of them, Thranenkind and Heretoir's talent is well displayed abound the near perfect Wiedersehen - Unsere Hoffnung." http://sputnikmusic.com/album.php?reviewid=37051&page=1 Contact, Orders and Booking: Thraenenkind@gmx.de

Profane Existence Review of the Debut Album "The Elk":

"I threw this on during my drive home recently without ever having heard anything by these guys before and it couldn’t have been a better soundtrack. I live about 20 miles out of town in a heavily hilly and wooded area of Western New York. The trees are bare, with the exception of snow and/or ice and everything is calm, quiet and almost post apocalyptic. The cd starts with lush layers of beautiful guitar, playing clean and picking through chords creating a serene, but mildy oppressive atmosphere. Suddenly, distorted guitars tastefully kick in, but the mood isn’t altered. Things just get heavier. Vocals are minimal which creates an even more dramatic effect. They oddly fit, but seem like the vocalist may have been in a crust band at some point. Each song has a similar structure, but each as unique as the last. THRANENKIND is all about atmosphere, not blazing speed or brutality. They remind me a bit of WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM with out the black metal, but have a lot in common with CELESTIIAL, a “woodland doom” band from the Mid-Western U.S. Upon further investigation I found that these folks are very political and promote the vegan straightedge anarchist lifestyle. I love when political folks like these guys don’t play the expected musical style that fits their beliefs. There seem to be more and more Green Anarchist Black Metal bands popping up lately, which is awesome since I’m a huge black metal fan, but hate wading through all the sketchy bands to find the good ones. Not to mention that the production on this is perfect. No fake creepy wet dungeon recording. This is their first full length and this is a promo copy, so who knows if there will be any changes on the actual release. Oh, and my copy came with a little piece of what might be a fern in it. If you like slower atmospheric doom laden blackmetal done by people who give a shit, pick this up immediately. (Jake)"
