    Welcome to the MySpace Music page for TIMKAT Entertainment. Founded in October 2007 by father and daughter jazz musicians and industry professionals, Tim Ballard (1948-2009) and Kathryn Ballard Shut (President), our vision and mission lie in promoting, performing, recording, writing about, and supporting world-class independent jazz and soul. TIMKAT also produces the new soulful Internet radio show, MODERN SOUL SAUCE, currently syndicated on 8 global stations. We are both an artist management / booking agency as well as a ASCAP-affiliated music publisher. Owner Kathryn has been an Associate Member of the North American Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (aka NARAS or "Grammy Awards") since 2008, is a member of Worldwide Who's Who (Entrepreneurs), and is a lifelong jazz pianist, vocalist, writer, and enthusiast.     TIM BALLARD (1948-2009) was a jazz master (vocal, saxophone, piano) whose career spanned four decades and who entertained audiences on a countless volume of music in many genres, including classic jazz, smooth jazz, soul, R&B (including Motown), rock, and timeless standards. A 15-year veteran of the Las Vegas music scene, Tim's name graced many major hotel and casino billboards, such as Bally's, Mandalay Bay, Caesar's Palace, the Bellagio, Flamingo Hilton, the historic Desert Inn, and the MGM Grand. Tim was also the mainstage draw at the former Hotel San Remo for the majority of those years. Prior to moving to Las Vegas in 1992, Tim's music was an integral part of the Dallas jazz scene for over a decade, allowing him to collaborate with producer Dave Zoller and great jazz pianist and trombonist Randy Wensel. Tim also owned and operated his own successful jazz nightclub, 'Tim Ballard's', and featured local jazz combos, smooth artists, vocalists, and it was there that he even fronted a 17-piece big band as vocalist himself. Finally, Tim was also voted Best Jazz Vocalist for several years' running in the 'Spotlight Magazine' reader's poll and was featured on the cover of the prominent jazz magazine 'Texas Jazz'. Tim has released two albums, 'Singing Positive to the People' (1978, release planned 2012) and 'Easy Does It' (1991, 2008 digital reissue). Tim sadly lost his battle with lung cancer and lymphoma, and passed away peacefully on June 8, 2009 in Dallas; however, his memory and music live on through TIMKAT. ______ KATHRYN BALLARD SHUT (pronounced /shoot/) is an accomplished jazz pianist and vocalist, living and working in the Denver, Colorado live music scene, and grew up surrounded by both music lovers and working musicians. Classically trained on the piano beginning at age 8, reeds at age 10, and incorporating jazz theory by age 14, Kathryn has served as both pianist and woodwind "doubler" in big bands (clarinet/flute/saxes) as well as small combos. Most recently, she served as a prominent member of several jazz orchestras within The Colorado Jazz Workshop under the leadership of Hugh Ragin. Kathryn is co-leader and founder of the classic jazz small ensemble, 'Lost Soul Jazz Combo' (see http://www.MySpace.com/denverlostsoul) and has played major venues in Denver (including a sold out show in the dining room of the famous Dazzle Restaurant). In addition to her work with Lost Soul, she also served as pianist in the long-standing vocal combo, 'The Amy Kay Combo', which performed regularly at both the D-Note and Bliss Cafe in Arvada, Colorado for almost two years. In addition to collaborating with jazz master and father, Tim Ballard, Kathryn has also worked with Latino film and music stars Daniel Valdez (of 'Zoot Suit','La Bamba','The Westside Oratorio'), Rosana DeSoto (of 'La Bamba','Mambo Cafe'), and Jesse Borregos (of the TV series 'Fame' and 'Blood In, Blood Out'), as well as with Denver jazz artists Mark Diamond, Keith Oxman, Drew Morell, Hugh Ragin, Linda Theus-Lee, Mike Evans, Kevin MacInness, Jared Johnson, Jean-Luc Davis, and many more. Kathryn is also owner of Denver-based TIMKAT Entertainment, Inc., an agency that focuses on promoting world-class, independent jazz, soul, R&B, and acoustic talent for live performances, multimedia projects, and digital album sales online.
