Taping Policy For Live Shows
Tim Reynolds and TR3 allow audio and video taping at almost every live performance. Tim has an amazing talent for improvization and no two shows are the same. Taping allows fans the opportunity to recreate the live experience. At all taping authorized performances, tapers can tape from any location in the venue that doesn't obstruct the view of others or in areas designated by the venue for taping. Soundboard feeds are sometimes avaliable, but are in no way guaranteed.
Tim himself allows taping, however, some venues do not. If a venue doesn't allow taping there is nothing Tim can do. The venue has final say on taping. If you are planning to tape a show you must contact the venue ahead of time to make sure taping is permitted.
All recordings must be used for personal use or trading only. All audio and video performances belong to Tim Reynolds / TR3 and are not available for promotional use without explicit prior written consent. Selling or commercializing any recording is illegal and will jeopardize taping privileges for everyone.
For a nice overview of how to approach soundmen about taping and what to bring, you should check out "Kurt's taping tips, explanation and purpose of this list, thoughts on bootlegging, and general recording etiquette..." This is a great reference tool by Joe the soundman in Blacksburg VA on proper etiquette and things you may need to bring with you. This list of course varies from venue to venue depending on equipment. That is why it is a good idea to contact the venue well before the show and make sure you have the right equipment. Special Thanx to Mike Wagner for including us and providing this reference tool.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Ive only heard Tim play with DMB. What should my first TR solo cd be?
A: This is a tough one because ultimately it comes down to preference. However, most people consider Stream to be the most accessible starting point for Tims solo catalogue because it is a straight-up acoustic disc with no effects or overdubs. Just TR. From there, Gossip of the Neurons is a live acoustic album, and See Into Your Soul and Nomadic Wavelength are mostly acoustic with a bit of programming. If you are looking to get into the electric side of things, both Sanctuary and Parallel Universe are double-disc sets that offer both acoustic as well as electric songs. Similarly, Puke Matrix is a live electric cd with a band, and Astral Projection is a studio project with that same band. Chaos View features Tim live, solo, electric.
Q: If Tim Reynolds is such a profoundly talented guitarist, why is he not signed to a major record label?
A: I have personally asked TR this question, and his reply was that he has been offered his fair share of record deals, and turned them all down because he values the freedom of being an independent artist. Such freedoms allow TR to record what he wants, when he wants, and tour a less rigorous schedule. In essence, it means that TR can do what he wants, when he wants, and not what a record label would want. Specifically, Tim has stated that, "I've given lots of thought to it, but every time I got close to it, I found it was just too constricting,"
Q: How long has Tim Reynolds been playing guitar?
A: Essentially, his entire life. TR started out playing bass guitar as a youth in his church, and progressed into guitar soon after.
Q: When will TR and Dave tour or play together again?
A: The answer to that is not so simple and unfortunately not something we in the TR camp can usually answer. The decisions about all of that are done in the DMB/Dave camp. Basically, TR is a hired gun on those tours and shows and we rarely have much advance knowledge of their tour plans, dates, etc for Dave and if his plans will include TR. Once the Dave/DMB camp has decided they want to do something with TR they find out if he is available to do the dates. As I have stated many TIMes before, TR is not waiting around for this to happen, but is receptive to future work with Dave if he is available when they call with proposed dates. We rarely know when this will happen as it is all decided on the Dave/DMB end. When we do know something it is usually not long before the public is aware of it. I would love to post that info as soon as we know it's a possibility, but out of respect for Dave, his career and mgmt we let them make the announcements to the public. They run the show for those tours. Until they tell us we can talk about it we must keep it quiet. The jist of all this that asking that question on this board will rarely get a polite response from TR fans and I generally can't answer it until the Dave camp tells us we can talk about it which is usually never before they have made their announcement. Most we can ever say with any confidence is that Dave is always talking about future tour possibilites with TR and that it will probably happen at some point in the future. Keep watching the Dave/DMB sites for those announcements. Unfortunately, it is out of our hands. For even more detail about this situation, please check out the following thread:

Tim Reynolds has been playing music all of his life. Starting as a bass player in a gospel band in his hometown of St. Louis to his break through band in the 80’s, TR3 and forward to recording with & touring with DMB and the Dave Matthews/Tim Reynolds Acoustic Duo. Tim’s progression has continued through his last 8 years on the road as a solo acoustic guitar wizard playing for packed houses who have come to realize this is not just Dave's side man, this is one of the most talented and thoughtful players on the circuit today!!
Now things have come full circle and TR3 is back again in 2008 to rock and funk your house down. The songs will be a mix of updated Tim classics to wild covers of everything from James Brown to Prince to Tim’s newest catalogue of material he is preparing just for this tour.
Tim has spent the last 8 years living in New Mexico but after a sudden move to the Outer Banks of North Carolina in 2007 Tim ran across two players that would eventually form this new version of TR3. Mick Vaughn will be on bass. Mick moved to the Outer Banks in 1995 after many years playing in Chicago with Scott Bennett opening for such bands as Jimmy Cliff and Dave Mason. He also recorded with Liz Phair & Dovetail Joint. Mick had been playing locally in OBX for several years until he ran into Tim this past summer. Drummer Dan Martier grew up in Pittsburgh, PA and spent most of the 80’s in various bands playing the club scene 6 nights a week. After teaming up with his wife and powerful soul singer Laura they formed Express in Florida and toured with The B-Side, Wallomatics & various others until being drawn to the Outer Banks in 1989 where he has remained an active player on the local scene. After a chance meeting of the three talented players, a few rehearsals and several stealth appearances around the North Carolina shore Tim realized it was time to get back to the basics…rockin out the way only Tim can.
