Hello to you and welcome to the Tinyfish MySpace page.
Tinyfish are a London five piece band with a deep and abiding interest in all forms of progressive music.
Simon, Paul, Jim and Rob came together in the early naughties as an acoustic outfit playing the open mic spots of London. However as the band matured their material began to evolve into something altogether more progressive and complex. By 2005 the group took the decision to change their name, leave the acoustic scene behind and venture on as a full electric band.
All too aware of the size of the group's public profile in a genre that is home to some of the biggest names in rock, the band jokingly dubbed themselves Tinyfish and the name quickly stuck.
The group were keen to steer clear of as many progressive rock clichés as possible and decided not use any keyboards at all, instead taking the route that King Crimson chose using guitar synths and FX to obtain any sounds beyond the reach of their six strings.
Live, the band were joined by My Pet Junkie drummer and percussionist Leon Camfield and together, the band transformed itself from a gentle acoustic quartet into a frenzied electric quintet which was influenced as much by post punk bands like The Police and XTC as it was by their progressive roots.
In short, Tinyfish give their progressive sound a subversive shot in the arm, filled with musical guile and lyrical darkness.
The band have released two albums to date; Their eponymous debut and Curious Things. They are currently working on their third album which is due to release in November 2009.
In addition to their recorded output, Tinyfish are about to release a live album and DVD in September 2009 through Metal Mind Records. The show was recorded in Katowice, Poland and was played before a sell out crowd.
Tinyfish are proud to be part of a scene that boasts such musical heroes as King Crimson, Rush, Marillion and even Tom Waits but are content to remain a small group of friends who exist simply for the love of making progressive music, because:
