Residing in North Texas for the last thirteen years, recording artist Tioga Dan Sloane has become known as a "guitar-slinger extraordinaire". He is as insanely accurate with his lyrics and musical composition as he is with his guitar licks. Being the second most famous musician to come out of Tioga Texas, Tioga Dan admits it would take some doing to surpass Tioga's favorite son- Gene Autry. Having gained a second wind after a fifteen year hiatus to raise his family and overcome some serious health issues, Tioga Dan is hitting the streets with a renewed energy and interest in bringing his particularly inspiring guitar genius to some new material, currently being recorded. Tioga Dan writes what he sees and he believes with the current cultural environment, he has a lot to work with.
Tioga Dan began to develop his natural-born talent in his Roanoke Valley Virginia hometown by playing around the local music scene. It wasn't long before he was known as the kid with real talent for the guitar. After high school he moved to Chicago. After a few years playing Chicago's Blues scene, including a stint with the Jimmy Dawkins Band, he left Chicago. A few years later,Tioga Dan decided it was time to get down to some serious study. He gained two degrees in Music and continued with the U.N.T. Graduate Jazz Studies program in 1987. At the beginning of this period he produced a local hit called"Sitting in Roanoke" that was the most requested song on K92 when that station was one of the top-rated stations in the U.S. That song is still the only legitimate local hit ever in Roanoke and has been placed in the list of things that made Roanoke special by a local columnist.
Tioga Dan is currently being played worldwide on approximately 50 internet stations. Michael Dunn of Planetnerve8.com is quoted saying "Tioga Dan has a groove to die for" and has compared his slide on Tioga Dan's song "I'm so tired" to guitar-great Joe Walsh. Tioga Dan has also been compared with Clapton and J. Beck. With 27 years as a recording artist and thousands of his recordings sold, he has produced two albums and is currently producing his third. With plenty of life experience tucked under his belt, as Eddie Wilson of the Cruisers said,Tioga Dan has "something to say, not just something to show"!
