TM's Bio & More...
His ferocious, yet melodic, style of bass is as unique as his larger than life persona. Never losing sight of his own special blend of signature roots music, Heavy Metal Funk, TM's versatility and heavyweight skills as producer, songwriter, film score composer, singer and instrumentalist are his signature traits.
His early years were spent as a session player doing commercial jingles as well as recordings with other artists. Becoming well known as a solid and creative player, eventually brought him to play with the incomparable Miles Davis. To this day, fans speak almost religiously of TM's performance at Montreaux Jazz Festival years ago with the One Truth Band, with Mahavishu John Mc Laughin.
During this time, TM also developed an interest in composing for motion pictures. He has always been a movie buff and understands the important role that music plays in setting moods and evoking emotion. In true TM style, he made an impression in front of the lens as well as behind the scenes in a film called Limousine Drive where TM not only scored the film, but starred in it as well. It was his first taste of scoring and he loved it..
HBO also used TM's hit song Spank for their series CATHOUSE.
TM's rich, hefty, trademark vocals came about through James Brown's insistence that he not only play bass but sing on his album Gravity. TM's unmistakeable voice is the main background voice aside from Mr. Browns on the smash hit "Living In America". This was TM's in-road to many years of sessions and productions with some of the world's finest artists.
His extravagance, combined with tenderness and complimented by a whole lot of 'Funkiness', is enriched through years of recording and/or performing with award-winning stars like Steve Vai, Whitney Houston, Cindy Lauper, Little Steven, Tina Turner, Little Richard, Stevie Wonder, and Billy Joel. As a former member of The Pretenders, TM played on the platinum album Get Close.
He also produced and arranged the album Black Night - Tribute to Deep Purple According to New York on which artists like Yngwie Malmsteen, members of Living Color and Bernie Worrell (P-Funk) all participated.
It was TM who contributed the compelling groove with his unmistakable style on Joe Cocker's mainstream classic "Unchain my Heart. Together with Narada Michael Walden, he penned his first Billboard hit "I Shoulda Loved Ya."
He successfully balances his career as a solo artist, while still working with other artists when his schedule allows. As a bandleader, TM tours Europe regularly each year and in addition manages to make his way to Asia and China with players such as Cindy Blackman (Lenny Kravitz and Santana), Divinity (Beyonce and Victor Wooten), Delmar Brown (Sting and Jaco Pastorious), John Blackwell (Prince, Justin Timberlake), and Kat Dyson (Prince).
He also tours as a hired gun with artists such as Jean Paul Bourelly, The Headhunters, Carl Palmer (of Emerson, Lake, and Palmer), Vanilla Fudge, Pat Travers & Carmine Appice. Recently, TM joined forces on stage with fellow James Brown alumni, Bootsy Collins and fellow master bassist Victor Wooten at the Frankfurt Musikmesse and the NAMM show.
TM continues to evolve as an artist who refuses to rest on the merits of his past and focuses on moving ever-forward into the future.
