Sounds Like
Sounds like I got it wrong and fell flat on my face.
And that's the idea.... The Tombee sound is Organic, home brewed Hip Hop and beats, or as I used to call it at one stage, Folk Hop. It keeps that raw sampled sound just left of the centre of main stream UK Hip Hop crews.
Once upon a time I had a flash studio with loads of kit, spent hours getting things... hmmm... no... yeah... a little less.... ah, just right! But the end results often lacked the vibe and realness the original idea had when it was thrown down in 15 minutes. Things became over worked and lifeless; they lost their soul. It's like Bruce Lee said: ''Don' concentlate on da finga aww you wiw miss aw da heavenry grorwy!''.
Nowadays, as long as you dig the beat and catch the vibe, I don't care if the kick drum needs more compression.
Mistakes intentional and a dirty sound essential, sod the production skills and polished sound, Tombee's all about the dirt and the feeling. I strive to combine warmth, emotion and soul with super fly beats and lots of turntable trickery.
Want to know a little more about Tombee and what makes me tick? Read on and find out what's going on in my noodle....
You Are 44% Paranoid Schizophrenic
It's likely that you're perfectly fine, though you have your crazy moments.
You tend to be a bit paranoid, but no one's out to get you but yourself.
You're not going to mow over everyone to get ahead...
But you're also powerful enough to make things happen for yourself.
You understand how the world works, even when it's an ugly place.
You just don't get ugly yourself - unless you have to!
Okay, well I guess it's time I updated this here Myspace, so here goes...
Hi, I'm Tombee. I'm kind of a skratch DJ and producer, although to be honest I don't really DJ as much as I probably should. Currently I'm lucky enough to have a label putting my music out, but more about that in a bit. I've been Dj-ing since around 1992, when I used to be well into early breakbeat and drum n bass - or Hardcore as it was known back then.
I'm getting on a bit now so I've worked in lots of different places and industries. I've worked at record labels such as UNIVERSAL/ISLAND, RAWKUS UK, LONDON RECORDS, FFRR, MUSHROOM/INFECTIOUS RECORDS, FIERCE PANDA, LIVID MEER CAT, RABID BADGER, aswell as VIRGIN records to name but a few, doing various things, but nothing really glamerous.
I've worked in advertising too; as a writer. I've just recently I've got back into doing it again full time after getting sick of scraping a living doing music for the last 7 or 8 years. Basically I had enough of being skint, had just bought a house, and needed the dough. I find I'm getting pretty sensible and boring in my old age to be honest. I've done a few remixes and had a few records out, some of which you can hear here.
They were put out on rather a cool little label called Jack To Phono Records. It's a long story that started years and years ago with a pie in the sky dream. After a lot of hard work and a few lucky breaks I was put in touch with my label by a guy called Diesler, who has stuff out on the Tru Thoughts label as well as others. He was DJ-ing for me at Better Days, gave me their address and the rest is history. Now might be a good time to mention Better Days then...
I was a DJ and partner in BETTER DAYS, a Newcastle club night that notched up a tally of musical firsts for the city and ultimately led to me getting my music on a label. I've also supported the likes of AIM, WOOZ of THE DMC CHAMPS THE FLAREDY CATS, KEB DARGE, MARK RAE, ONESELF, FREDDIE CRUGER, UTAH SAINTS, DREAD ZONE, WARP'S CHRIS CLARKE, AYAK, RED ASTAIRE, COLD CUTS skratch Dj RAJ PANNU and many more. I've managed and was also head engineer at a MUSIC STUDIO in London - And I was also one third of the band VODA COLA, so I've done all that type of thing in my earlier years too.
I keep threatening to set up my own independant imprint, FLY FOLK-MUSIC, but never really get round to it. One day I will though. Honest.
I also love Trainers... or sneakers if you prefer. Kicks, whatever. I love them so much I paint my own. I customise them and sell them so if you're into that sort of thing check out my other page below (in my top friends). It's called Fly Folk Footwear, drop me a message or something if you want some.
I also really really like sharks... one day I'm gonna swim with them, but I hopefully what happened to my youtube buddie scuba steve won't happen to me. Check it out... I can't stop watching this video.
I'd also like to add - If you're feelin' my music, spread the word and pass it on. Peace. That's about it really. Oh here are some videos I made using my mobile phone, plus a few other ones I like. See what you think. Also I'd really like to go to Japan, so if there are any Japanese artists or labels that want a remix or anything - let me know. R.I.P the genius that is or rather was Michael Hedges. The video below is a must see.

Yo Tombeeasaurus. I just found out that we're related...and as a special family only present we've made a new song for you called "End of Days" (start doing backflips now). It's an epic instrumental opus to the moment when our ancient Dino relatives saw a large fiery object plummeting towards them. Please come to our page, give it a listen and let us know if it makes you feel like something catastrophic is gonna happen. If the song upsets you too much we will be holding several s support groups (read: comcerts) in the near future. Check our page for locations, dates and times.
Thanks mate, hope all is well up there! I hear you have cats, can't beat a bit of feline friendship. Would like one myself, endless fun! We should hook up a remix soon!
Hey man, I'm working on a track inspired by traditional Japanese folk music, I could do with some feedback and thoughts... (there is more info in the 'info' section of the video)
If you have time It'd be appreciated, Peace, Leon (the Beat Scientist)
