Transformational journey:
THE TOM FULLER BAND
Hailing from the city of big shoulders, the Tom Fuller Band is a fine representation of Chicago’s musical heritage, legacy and history. The Tom Fuller Band combines the melodic pop rock sensibilities of a band like Cheap Trick, with a willingness to experiment and grow their sound like Wilco. Add lyrical content focusing on matters of the heart and relationships like the great blues acts of the past - with a distinct love for classic British bands such as The Beatles and The Hollies - the Tom Fuller Band delivers a unique rock sound of heartfelt, optimistic songs of growth and self-realization.
Tom Fuller distills his influences and sense of history to create a musical palette that shimmers with the brightness of Rubber Soul and Revolver-era Beatles with the hook laden and harmonic sense of the British Invasion’s best. Grounded in the roots of power pop and with the insight and feeling of the classic singer/songwriters like Tom Petty and Bob Dylan, Tom Fuller embraces his influences and then takes them to forge a personal reflection of his place in the world…as a concerned and caring person in a confusing and transformational time in history. While Tom may have a love for the classic British acts of the 60’s and 70’s, his arsenal of songs is uniquely contemporary. With an additional Americana sense of possibility and shared responsibility, and a historical outlook of generation gaps and making the world a better place for others to live in, Tom Fuller provides inspiring words for change and betterment.
The growth of the Tom Fuller Band from its infancy and first CD release Chasing An Illusion in 2005 through to its second album Abstract Man in 2008 and beyond, is to see the evolution of the sound as a byproduct of their relentless gigging across the United States and the UK, and Tom’s maturation as an accomplished songwriter. That growth can easily be seen in its touring schedule and its place as one of the premier go to supporting bands in the States, opening for the likes of Blues Traveler, Kings X, Blue Oyster Cult and UFO, and fresh off a well-received and critically-acclaimed acoustic duo gig for blues rock guitar genius Robin Trower.
If 2009 has been a banner year for the Tom Fuller Band, then 2010 looks to be a watershed as the band prepares to tour behind its soon to be released third CD on Red Cap Records. Recorded this past summer at El Dorado Studios in Los Angeles, with help from Brian Ray and Abe Laboriel, Jr. of Paul McCartney’s backing band and pop rock music producer Rick Chudacoff, the new material showcases Tom’s meaningful and emotional songs as well as his band’s engaging musicianship in service to Tom’s latest batch of lyrics and musical ideas.
Tom Fuller utilizes personal experience and life lessons in applying discipline and focus to his songwriting, touring and album releases. Using his Midwestern work ethic, he is also able to present singularity of vision and tremendous passion to his developing songcraft. Looking into the future, especially in the constantly shifting and changing music business, the Tom Fuller Band looks to grow its solid fan base and place in history with great songwriting, solid musicianship and rockin’ shows. On a personal level, Tom, through his songs and performances, hopes to provide the power to change people’s lives and define their world.
As Tom and his band continue to evolve the range of its sonic concepts as well as in the content of his lyrical concerns, the Tom Fuller Band growth is an excellent example of what hard work combined with playful exploration can trigger in the output of a maturing rock n’ roll band. As Tom and his band emulate the success that they have already began to garner in the UK, their energy and enthusiasm will serve them well as they continue to build their American fan base with a relentless and dogged determination reflected in each and every song. From the clubs of Chicago to venues in London, and all points between, the Tom Fuller Band thus continues in their evolution as recording artists and as a touring band in delivering their brand of melodic music to worldwide fans.
With Tom’s determined vision and focus leading the way, listen for the Tom Fuller Band to apply their multitude of talents and skills in making their next album an innovative, transformational treat for fans of not only melodic power pop but lovers of rock music as a whole in the upcoming months and years.
