Bob Lefsetz is the author of "The
Lefsetz Letter."He claims to be " Famous for being beholden to no one and
speaking the truth" ??? Huh??
The
Leftsetz letter is widely read by many in the entertainment industry on a
weekly and sometimes daily basis. The following exchange between Bob and myself
was instigated publicly in his Leftsetz Letter. Bob responded back to me privately
and then refused to print my counter response claiming that this was now a
private exchange and that he "didn't publish his personal emails".
Hardcore readers of his newsletter claim that he quite often publishes people's
responses to his derogatory comments but in fact that only happens when it
serves his purpose. Bob loves to
publish emotional responses for his readers giving them a forum to help
validate his point and further attack his victims. Many top attorneys and
artists have fallen prey to the trap that Bob lays out. The following exchange
makes it very clear that Bob Leftsetz selectively publishes responses that will
not embarrass him by his lack of due diligence or his hypocritical views. The
self proclaimed truth seeker who claims intense brilliance on his home page, is
in fact a failed industry power pundit. Bob Lefsetz uses his forum as a
platform for revenge against the industry that he couldn't succeed in.

And then they're running late. Which
gives me enough time to read "Fortune" and find out that Tommy Lee is letting
the public record his album. Enough with the gimmicks Tommy, NO ONE WANTS
YOUR ALBUM! Yup, he records drums and vocals, you create the music and he
owns it. Huh? Why does everybody keep paying attention to Mr. Lee.
He's a DRUMMER! He should be thankful that people still want to see
him in Motley Crue.

Yes, I did...
About that Fortune article where you're asking the public to
contribute...
I think you've kind of blown your solo opportunity.
The key is to play drums for a while.
Maybe in a new supergroup a la Chickenfoot. Of, if doing something kind of solo, align yourself with a songwriter. Make it more about music than money.
Right now, it's got the smell of making money more than making a statement...

RE: Empowering The Audience
Hi Bob,
Thank you for your response. Maybe you could help me understand how you
think my project has the smell of making money? The downloads are free,
you don't even have to give up your email address, in fact every aspect of
the site is free. How can you say that it's more about money than music
when there is absolutely zero ecommerce happening here? What makes you
think that I haven't aligned myself with songwriters on this project?
Maybe you don't like the songs and that's ok, but the feedback from the 50,000
people that have visited the site in the last 3 weeks has been overwhelmingly positive. To quote you we are "empowering the audience" and at the same time giving unknown musicians and fans an opportunity to be heard
on a global scale. You mentioned that I've recorded drums and vocals and asked everyone else to create the music and then I own it????
Of course I own it, I wrote and co-wrote the songs and if you actually took the
time to investigate the site before running your mouth you know that all, the songs are already completed. Nobody is being asked to write a song!! In case you didn't know, studio musicians don't get royalties on records. EVER!!! (Except the "SRSPF") In
fact I've personally played on records from Rob Zombie to Jacks Mannequin for free,
that's right $0... Every studio musician I know has started their career
by working on many different records just to build up a list of credits to show everyone else how great they are and to eventually get paid. I'm giving everyone in the world, that doesn't have the luxury of hanging out in the hallways of recording studios in LA NYC and Nashville a chance to be heard. I'm disappointed that you, of all people, don't have the facts straight of how a studio musician gets started in this business. It's also a bummer that you of all people, who is constantly ripping on the antiquated industry and it's lack of innovation would not see the good will of this project. Did you know that me and producer Scott Humphrey have made a cash donation to Music Cares and donating a portion of all proceeds of all music sales to their cause?? Do you know how hard it is
to get publishers to agree to giving away free downloads? What about about the free guitar tabs, the free play along instructional video? What about
our partners at Roadrunner? Do you think they wanted to give away the music for free?? Why don't you learn the facts first before you rip on me? Fine if you
don't like my music, because I'm not making it for you, I'm making it with my fans for my fans. You are always the first person to criticize everyone that plays by the rules and has their tongue up the usual suspects ass. Why don't you just look at my project for what it is. Groundbreaking, full of good will and possibly a new way to gain traction in a world that's confused by so many different mediums. I could only Imagine if some of my idols like Led Zeppelin, The Stones, Van Halen, Cheap Trick, U2, etc. had put their songs up online for free when I was 14 yrs old and I could have a rip on my drums with these guy??...I would have lost my f$ckin mind!!! Oh, and your advice to me about starting a super group ala chicken foot? How about I give some advise to you instead, since I'm busy making a record right now. How about this Bob, why don't you do something proactive to help our industry . I'm sure I speak for all your readers that it's entertaining to hear you go off on the same people over and over again but why can't you put all your wisdom and energy into making some positive changes?? I think this is your responsibility because you seem to have everyone's attention right now, and God knows we need some help!!
