TOM PALMER
Described by Mike Harding as a 'great singer-songwriter' Tom Palmer is a big man with a big voice. Born in Pontefract,Tom learnt his first guitar chords at the age of 13. Keen to earn a living from singer-song writing he formed the The Tom Palmer Band and played local pubs and folk clubs. Encouraged by his family to find a 'proper job' Tom trained to become a Chef and after successfully gaining his Chef's certificate he left Yorkshire in 1974, working his way around the South East and West Coast of the UK.
Determined to make a career from music Tom turned professional in 1976. He continued to write his own songs and gig regularly; performing at Cambridge Folk Festival, Glastonbury and Cornwall's Elephant Fair. It was at Cambridge that he first met Phil Beer and in 1995 they recorded an album together 'Living With The Flaws' which was produced by Phil.
Since then Tom has continued to collaborate with Phil and other artists including Gordon Giltrapp, Steve Knightly, Show of Hands - performing with them in front of 5,000 people at a sold out Royal Albert Hall; Reg Meuross, Miranda Sykes, Jackie Oates and with his singer-guitarist daughter Holly in a duo simply entitled Palmer.
Tom's latest CD release self-titled 'Tom Palmer' was the first album to be released on Phil Beer's independent record label 'Chudleigh Roots'. The album has received great critical acclaim....
'Tom almost looks like he might be a third member of Show Of Hands, but most of all he's a big man with a big musical personality. His gravelly and deeply, powerfully resonant voice is an extraordinary instrument, and his guitar playing is emphatically no second-string, accomplished and satisfying in its own right...This is a very handsome album, chock-full of great - and often very moving - songs and some great, and really characterful, singing, it should gain Tom much acclaim and a place amongst the "must-sees". Netrhythms review
'Playing blues-soaked folk, Tom has been entertaining Britain and beyond with this impassioned tales of love, life and everything else in-between..This latest album is as high in quality as those in the know would expect. His voice bleeds emotion on songs like 'Blood in the Dirt' and 'That Thing' and his guitar playing is exemplary'. Brett Callwood - acousticmagazine.com
'Lovely simple open and honest songs and singing'. Reg Mueross
'Palmer has a wonderful deep growl of a voice that can touch on any number of emotions in just one song'. Spiral Earth
Tom has released seven albums to date. He lives in Cornwall with his financée Karen and side-kick dog, Jack. He also has a son Thomas, based in America.
