With years of performance in the Washington D.C, New Orleans and New York
music scenes, and a growing European connection, Touch Acoustra has cultivated sophisticated and accessible jazz with world music sensibilities. Headed by
guitarist Rob Coltun, the band draws from an eclectic palette evident in
their unusual compositions and chemistry.
Joining Rob are Matt Rippetoe (saxophone), Joe Brotherton (trumpet), Will Rast (keyboards), Marc Blackwood (bass) and Marty Morrison (drums). The players have absorbed a variety of influences including classical, funk and R&B music and share a love of composition and arranging.
The songs of Touch Acoustra were conceived mostly through improvisation, leading to layered jazz narrative ranging from free-spirited tone poems to guitar-driven multi-culti melodies reminiscent of African and Brazilian music. But don’t be misled. A strong rock undercurrent revitalizes listeners, transporting them to pleasurable realms, and when these guys rock out, they “Show No Mercy.”
Their 2003 Release When It Comes Upon You (produced by Adam Levy with guest appearances by Levy and Norah Jones) has received much
critical acclaim charting high in the Jazz charts in the U.S. and Canada..
A big thanks to all my friends... I just went over 10,000 listens on my player. I've added a fifth tune to my player, an arrangement of Scott Henderson's "Harpoon", the leader and guitar player of Tribal Tech.
Hey There! I am sorry I haven't written in awhile, Things have been moving forward and keeping me out of trouble...For the most part!
Have a fantastic day and I wanted to let you know I appreciate our friendship and your support!
Playing with this band encouraged me to open up, both as a musician and as a person. If you haven't seen or heard Rob Coltun's Touch Acoustra, don't miss your next opportunity to do so.
