Have a listen to two of the new songs from our upcoming new release 'Sexeh-Nahdeh' - we'll keep you posted but it will be out in
April! It's mixed now - and soon to be mastered...
Toxic Shock started in May 1998 when a group of friends decided to get together for a jam. At this stage we were lacking a drummer, but were introduced to Rai, a drum student of Derek at a party and she was instantly into the idea. Our first jam was at Karin's house and we had such a good time, we decided to jam regularly.
Toxic's first gig was in February '99 at the Wheatsheaf Hotel in Thebarton with Repo who we are everlastingly grateful to for forcing us to get out there and strut our stuff. If they hadn't set a date, we'd probably still just be jamming now 8 years later! It also forced us to decide on a name for the band. Getting five women to agree on a band name is more difficult than many might realise. Toxic Shock was the only name we came up with (after about a thousand suggestions) that no-one hated.
In 2003 we completed our second recording at Sound House studios (our first was a live demo recorded in 1999 at John Reynold's studios before Rai left due to family commitments, to be replaced by Derek - an 8 track CD entitled "What Part of "Yes" Don't You Understand?" which reached Number 3 on the Three D radio charts that year and gained media exposure from DB magazine and RipItUp Magazine.
Then sadly, shortly after that release, the band decided to split due to various factors - Billy had moved to Melbourne, Bec had fallen pregnant with her first child - a beautiful daughter she named Tigerlilly (with the delightful little fella, Eden, to follow a couple of years later) and Anna had decided to move to London for an extended period where she played in bands 'Punk Recruit' and 'The Revenge'. Derek also took time out to spend time with his gorgeous daughter - Bekki Renee (with the handsome & smart Scott, to follow a couple of years later). During this hiatus, Kaz has been studying video production and is working on..... wait for it! Our brand new... well... first ever FILLUM CLIP!!!
ANYWAY, It's over a year later and we're back with a bleedin' vengeance!!! We've consolidated into a four piece with heaps of new killer songs. 3 of the 4 of us are sharing lead vocals which makes for interesting viewing & listening dynamics, especially when our cookie monster (or is it snuffaluppacus?) is let out of his cage.
We've played some WICKED shows with the likes of Fear & Loathing, Red Rascal, Angelik, Killer Birds (VIC), Star 10 Hash, Miss Golly Gosh, Leather Messiah, Fiendish Cavendish, Roadkill 66, The Temps, Transmitter, NFI, Blistered Palms, Backseat Romeos, Chevron Whores (QLD), Crackwhore (VIC), Trixie Plain, Kamikaze, The Peaves, Obdurate Seduction, Scarlett Cook, The Milton Expereince, The Driven, The Gels and many more.
Our brand spankin' new cd release entitled
Sexeh-Nahdeh
will be released early in 2008.
Other than that we're currently in the process of organising a tour of regional S.A. and Victoria and, we'll be finally getting some band merch happening soon as well, such as; t-shirts, posters, badges, undies, socks, condoms, tea bags etc... well..... maybe not the tea bags or socks.
We've been described recently as scary, goofy, 'a comedy routine', illustrious, legendary, very entertaining, sexy, charismatic, adorable, cute, amazing..... oh sorry, that was me getting carried away..... I thought I'd add the last 5 descriptions... self promotion never goes astray ya know!!!
Best thing to do is come & check us out!!! Hopefully you wont regret it as long as you take Spoz's advice..... 'avoid all eye contact and keep note of ALL exits in case of an emergency!'

Thanx to everyone that came along to the HQ Show with Glenn Hughes & Electric Mary. It was an awesome night and Glenn Hughes did not dissapoint.
For all that attended, Adelaide saw one of the most talented & natural musicians on Planet Earth. And Electric Mary from Melbourne put on a powerhouse set of classic aussie rock. If you havent seen Electric Mary, do yourself a favour, they are one of the very few tight, kick ass bands touring Oz at the minute....Killer band!
I know we've said it before, but this will be our last show for a while as we put the finishing touches to the debut album. To be released towards the end of the year. Seeya real soon!
