One of the most prolific artists in the contemporary singer-songwriter arena, Tret Fure is extraordinarily talented. 2004 found her winning the prestigious South Florida Folk Festival Songwriting Competition in two out of three categories, Best Up-Tempo and Best Overall, as well as the Phyllis Schliessman Award for Outstanding Contributions to Womens Music. In addition to being a gifted songwriter, Fure possesses an uncanny mastery of musical technology. Over the past 30 years, Fure has engineered and produced countless recordings by a variety of artists, including her own work.
This writer, producer, engineer, vocalist and gifted instrumentalist has navigated her career with integrity and determination. After releasing her premier album on MCA records in 1973, titled Tret Fure, and becoming one of the first women sound engineers in the US, she left the mainstream music industry. Armed with a fierce desire to retain full artistic control, Fure began exploring the independent side of the industry and soon discovered the blossoming genre known as Womens Music. She has been a major player in that field ever since. Now after 3 acoustic releases on her own label, Tomboy girl Records, she has re-established herself in the folk world.
Fure's acclaimed solo releases include Terminal Hold, Edges of the Heart, Time Turns the Moon, Back Home, which took both album of the year and single of the year awards for 2001 from Outvoice Top 40 and My Shoes, which took the number 2 spot for album of the year in 2003 from Outvoice. Sing Out Magazine says of My Shoes "Fure's new solo venture signals her intent to do more than just move on. This album soars...She has never sounded better...This mature effort surely ranks among Fure's finest works and will be savored by old-time fans and new fans alike." In 2005 Fure released her latest and best work to date, Anytime, Anywhere. Performing Songwriter has this to say: "Acoustic guitars and various percussion instruments permeate the album, and Fures strong vocals breathe amazing life into her songs. The entire album consistently conveys Fures energetic spirit and passion for life.. Each of Fures collections spotlights her gift for creating lyrical and musical vignettes. Whether it is her signature disarming piano ballad "That Side of the Moon, the moving and beautiful story of her Norwegian grandparents "Ancestors" or the gorgeous love song, Dream Time, Fure's words transform inaccessible and complex emotions into that which listeners can viscerally touch.
Fure also markets of her own line of clothing named after her popular song Tomboy girl. With the success of this venture, she now owns a retail store in Madison, WI. In addition, she has produced a series called Music & Comedy in Madison and has hosted the successful festival, Tomboy girl Fest. An accomplished cook, Fure has also published a cookbook, Tret's Kitchen, featuring her own recipes. Along with bridging the marketing, production, and music worlds, Tret serves as Vice President on the executive board of the Local 1000 Traveling Musicians Association--a union geared toward helping traveling musicians find security and longevity.

About this page: I have been very active in Domestic Violence causes all of my adult life. I noticed a need in the world pertaining to Same Sex Domestic Violence. It happens more than people know. Unfortunately there are a number of gay people who barely consider themselves worthy or valued as a gay person much less a Domestic Violence Victim. There are also very limited resources, statistics, or information, for Same Sex Domestic Violence. Hopefully through empowerment and education we can change some of this.
