From opening shows for Brand Nubian, Wu-Tang and Nice and Smooth among others and at age 15 and winning at the Apollo,to sharing a stage with Nas and The Notorious B.I.G. to becoming writing partners with other legendary artists early on in his career (putting him in exclusive company), The Ilacoin Joe Coker has risen through the ranks of Hip Hop (the culture) as an emcee, musical influence; and now as a producer.
"My only regret is not following up on Big L's invitation to get down with him before he passed on".
Having learned how to build classics from the likes of Sean Combs, Mark Pitts, Easy Mo Bee, Ski of Roc a Block, Ron Browz and Tchaka Zulu (to name a few) and spending time in the studio with greats like Rakim, Eminem, Black Rob (The list is truly endless), he is now back from a well needed hiatus.
"I've actually grown up in the upper echelon of the Hip Hop culture; from a child to a teenager to a grown man. That, as well as running the streets of New York since age 10 ; father figure gone, as well as seeing Europe and Africa on my own by age 12 gave me unique perspective and trauma...LOL. I'm thankful for my memories and my supporters in this journey."
Making himself available to share his skills, experiences and unique perspective on the music culture through what better...? Production and new music, he is eager to work with the newer and older generations of music. His underground classic, By A Stranger featuring Black Rob and then newcomer, Labba was featured on Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto 3. Recently The Wu-Tang Clan released a single off their 8 Diagrams LP called "Take It Back" containing the compositon of another one of his underground classics called "This, that and the 3rd" produced by ILACOIN & Easy Moe Bee. We should all be excited about his new contributions to Hip Hop music in the future. "Followers may reap fruit but the pioneers can always bear more."
