3rd Annual Nikkei Community Day's Blurbs |
About me:
The Third Annual Nikkei Community Day will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2009, in Little Tokyo's JACCC Plaza and Japanese Village Plaza, from 10 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Nikkei Community Day will bring together Japanese and Japanese American community groups and people scattered throughout the Greater Los Angeles Area for a one-day celebration of Japanese and Japanese American heritage, culture, and community.
In a symposium entitled "The State and Future of the Nikkei Community," community leaders and interested individuals from both the English-speaking and Japanese-speaking sectors will address where the community is now, and where it is going. As part of the discussion, Japanese American community centers will consider the changes they need to make in order to survive and prosper in the future.
Community groups will share information, display crafts and sell food at booths throughout the day. Community people will display their unique cultural talents by performing on stage. Health advocates will conduct free health screenings for stroke, bone density, and blood pressure, and will provide valuable health information.
To reserve a booth, provide a performance, or take an ad in the program booklet, please go to www.nikkeifederation.org and download the forms. The deadline for submission of the performance forms is April 17, 2009. The deadline for ad forms and booth forms is May 1, 2009.

Who I'd like to meet:
The Third Annual Nikkei Community Day is sponsored by Ties That Bind, a Japanese American community planning committee, in conjunction with the Nikkei Federation, Little Tokyo Service Center (LTSC), Japanese American Cultural and Community Center (JACCC), Japanese American Citizens League (JACL), and Little Tokyo Recreation Center.
This year's Day will be a part of a festival which includes the San Tai San (3-on-3) Basketball Tournament sponsored by the Recreation Center on Saturday, Children's Day Chibi-K Fun Run and Cultural Discovery Workshops, such as manju-making and taiko drumming, sponsored by JACCC, and the Asian Pacific Arts & Crafts Faire also sponsored by JACCC.
Please join us as the whole Nikkei community, together for one day, celebrates who we are and what we do!
