.. Tutu Jones wishes to extend his sincere sympathy to the family, fans, and friends of the great Memphis Horns sax player Andrew Love, who passed away April 12th. Love's wonderful tenor saxophone can be heard in such timeless classics as Sam and Dave's "Soul Man", Wilson Pickett's "Mustang Sally" and Otis Reddings "Try a Little Tenderness" plus many many others. Love and fellow Memphis Horn's member Wayne Jackson were inducted into the Memphis Music Hall of Fame in 2008 and given a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012. May he rest in peace.

Biography

Tutu Jones was born in Dallas Texas and started his music career with family members in the early 1970s. Along the way, Tutu met and played with such legendary artists as Z.Z. Hill, Little Milton, Johnnie Taylor, Little Joe Blue and Al “TNT” Braggs.

Since becoming a solo act, Tutu has shared the stage with artists such as Buddy Guy, B.B. King, Millie Jackson, Robert Cray, Bobby “Blue” Bland, Denise LaSalle, Al Green, Little Richard, and others.

Tutu is more than the sum of his influences (though distinguished influences they are!) He is first and foremost an individualist, who puts a very personal stamp on every note that he plays and every syllable that he sings. You could call him the living personification of the sound of South Dallas, where Blues and Soul meet and are stronger for it.

Tutu’s new and past recordings include:

  Inside Out (New) Soultone Records
        Staying Power    Concord Records
  Blue Texas Soul Concord Records
Tutu Jones Live Doc Blues Records
I’m For Real JSP Records (England)

Tutu’s song “Stubborn Woman” from his first CD “I’m For Real” is featured on the Smithsonian Collection of Recording titled “Mean Old World – The Blues from 1940-1994” which was NOMINATED FOR A GRAMMY.

In 1997, Tutu was nominated for the W.C. Handy Award, now known as The Blues Award. The nomination category was Soul Blues Album of the Year. In 2005, another Tutu Jones composition “Can’t Leave Your Love Alone!” was licensed from the “Staying Power” CD for the HBO series entitled “The Mind of a Married Man.”

Tutu has been featured prominently in many music magazines and history books around the world. For example: Roadhouse Blues (Stevie Ray Vaughn and Texas R&B) By: Hugh Gregory, London 2003.

These days, Tutu still tours internationally with big acts and has his new CD out featuring 9 tracks of orginal songs written by Tutu Jones.
