Biography
An eclectic band rooted in the creative soils of Montreal, Canada. Unexpect is a metal laboratory mixing elements of progressive, symphonic, black / death, core and melodic metal; classical, operatic, medieval, goth, electro, ambient, psychotic, noise and circus music with an occasional jazzy touch. The collective includes a violin, keyboards/sampling, a singing contemporary dancer, a 9 stringed bass, 2 guitarists/singers and a drum. The vocal performance of the two singers range from an extreme to the other as they alternate between glorious choirs; inhuman screams of deep, high, mid-growl and delirious intensity; theatrical narrations; and clean/sober sections strewn with a female singer who's angelic voice could melt the will of the most vile politician.
The ideas traveling in their lyrics are related to the imagination and the inherent creative power of all human beings, subjective tales, trancelike sensorial exploration, undercover denunciation of social aspects and subconscious realities. So… still trying to figure Unexpect? Think Cirque du Soleil goes black metal amidst an acid-trip version of The Dark Crystal. A mindfuck no doubt, but you get the picture.
Incensed by the press, their critically acclaimed album In a Flesh Aquarium (2006) received distinguished honors and has been acclaimed nearly unanimously by the critics as a milestone in contemporary metal. It has also been nominated for “Best Metal Album of the Year” at the Canadian GAMIQ 2007 & at the International Independent Music Awards. A perfect follow-up to their first independent full length Utopia (1999) and their breakthrough mini cd: _we, Invaders (2003).
The last years have been filled with highlights such as : Touring with DREAM THEATER & OPETH on the European Progressive Nation Tour '09; 5 successful North American tours (US, Canada & Mexico) with bands like Nile , The Gathering, Tub Ring, Trail of Tears from Norway & Sigh from Japan ; 2 headlining National Canadian Tours and 1 headlining European tour; all in all, more than 200 shows over the years with respected and internationally known bands including : Iron Maiden, Dream Theater, Opeth, Symphony X, Hammerfall, Hatebreed, Dethklok, Zimmers Hole, Mastodon, Overkill, Satyricon, Type O Negative, Mushroomhead, Lordi, Dark Funeral, Sonata Arctica, Epica, After Forever, Enslaved, Sodom, Paradise Lost, Finntroll, Cryptopsy, Kataklysm, Prong and a lot more...they also took part in the Heavy MTL festival 2008 in Montreal. Their latest album has been nominated for “Best Metal Album of the Year” at the Canadian GAMIQ 2007 & at the International Independent Music Awards, judged by famous artists like Les Claypool, Chad Smith and Snoop Dog…and add to that multiple nominations at the MIMI awards 2008. They also played live for the TV show Fearless Music, broadcasted on the FOX 5 channel in approximately 27 million households. The energy of the band in their live shows HAS to be seen and felt.

Hello et merci de l'ajout! Je viens de découvrir et de chroniquer votre excellent "Fables of the Sleepless Empire" sur mn blog: http://alias.codiferes.net/wordpress/index.php/unexpect-fables-of-the-sleepless-empire/ Bravo!
i love the new album. i can't stop hearing Unsolved Ideas, Vigilantes, Quantum Symphony and Pendulum, I kept being surprised by the music on my first listen, my face twisting in awe while my head bobbed and banged intermittently, all this at my workplace XD but i didn't care, it was a wonderful experience.
