Recognized simply by the sound of his powerful, raw, spiritual and emotional voice, Urban Mystic will share his thoughts, his soul, and his dreams on his third SoBe Entertainment album GRIII: Old School 2 Nu Skool, scheduled for release on April 28, 2009. The next single “Best Part of the Day,” a romantic ballad about the best time of the day is when Urb is with his lover, will be released in late February, 2009.
Only 24-years-old, Urban Mystic’s incredible soulfulness has already made a lasting impression which tugs at the hearts of all of his fans, especially women. The Fort Lauderdale-born Minister’s son takes a progressive approach to organic soul music, lacing every track with an intense, heartfelt connection to the listener. Urban Mystic galvanizes R&B, Hip Hop and Classic Soul beautifully and effortlessly, without losing his gospel roots.
Urban Mystic has been heralded by fans and critics alike, with respected publications such as USA Today (3 out of 4 stars) and Billboard Magazine touting him as a shining star on the horizon. AOL Music describes him as “A guy who is street without forsaking his soul to the streets.”
Urban Mystic’s 2004 KayGee-produced hit single “Where Were You?” quickly resonated at urban radio upon its release, and is still a recurrent tune to this day. The video for the song enjoyed rotation at BET, MTV Jams, and hundreds of video outlets across the country. The popularity of “Where Were You” from the debut album Ghetto Revelations established Urban Mystic as a vocalist to be reckoned with. His selection as the 2004 Miami Music Award’s “Best New Artist” was early proof of Urban Mystic’s bright future. He followed with the 2005 single “It’s You” featuring Paul Wall, and released Ghetto Revelations II in 2006, garnering even more attention for his stellar vocals.
As the third installment of his Ghetto Revelations saga, GRIII: Old School 2 Nu Skool promises to keep his longtime fans happy with mainstay Urban Mystic tunes like “Obama: A Change Has Come,” “Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop,” “Spread Your Wings,” “2 Good 2 B True” and “Best Part of the Day.” He will undoubtedly also bring new fans to the table with fresh tracks like “Main Squeeze” featuring Yung Joc and “I’m So Fly” featuring Reggae giants Ce’Cile and Beenie Man. Urban Mystic also has two crowd-pleasing duets with his label mate, the lovely musician and vocal sensation Phyllisia.
Urb, as friends affectionately call him, also offers up some club-friendly favorites like “Let’s Go Shawty” and “Lean With Me.” True to the Ghetto Revelations series, GRIII is a well-rounded project that listeners will fall in love with. He ends the album with a soulful rendition of the Van Morrison gospel track, “If I Ever Needed Someone.”
Urban Mystic’s multidimensional talents reach beyond his raspy, Southern-style vocals.
