My name is Syd Duran. My desire to sing and write music was part of me before I could express to my mom that I really don’t like wearing colored socks to match my outfit everyday… a very young age, is what I’m getting at. I picked up the guitar and started writing about romance, unrequited love, movies that scared me, and anything noted in my trusty dream-book.
I learned early on that depending on lots of other people to pursue your own dreams will only provide opportunity for disappointment. After years of playing for a handful of people on the street or quietly in the corner of coffee shops and storefronts, it was time to plug in and start melting some faces! By the time I got to high school, I had fronted several versions of the teenage rock band striving to impact the world while getting home in time for dinner and doing homework.
One day, a group of friends and I decided that music videos were awesome and we should have one…We chose the song “I Waited For You” and shot a video at Whittier High School, also known for its appearance in “Back to the Future.” One thing lead to another, and Hollywood Records called me. I played one of my songs for them. I was more nervous than I had ever been before. My guitar was completely out of tune, but it was one of those “no turning back” moments. So I resorted to singing unnaturally loud to pick up the slack of my unreliable instrument. With the favor of God and years of preparation, I walked out with a record deal.
Since that day, I have been diligently working, writing and recording to bring you the debut record . My desire is to provide you with a genuine, heart-wrenching, rock album. To accomplish this goal, I collaborated with Grammy-nominated producer Johnny K (he's worked with Disturbed, Staind and Black Tide). We started this record in the dead of winter in beautiful, yet freezing cold, Chicago, IL. I walked into a creepy, ancient-looking building, not knowing what to expect. With the intent of comforting me, Johnny informed me that his studio was once owned by the legendary Al Capone. I think that might have scared me into becoming a “one-take wonder” so I could get out of there as quickly as possible. We finished recording the remaining tracks at Nightbird Studios in the basement of the Sunset Marquis in Hollywood, CA. I truly enjoyed my time there and I'm so excited to hear the finished songs! So far I’ve heard two tracks, “I Waited For You” and “Live” and I’m just freaking out! It’s been a long journey with many challenges along the way, but I promise, when you finally hear this album, you'll agree that it was worth the wait!
