HUGH MCKENNA was musically closest to Alex, and their creative partnership was at once rewarding and devastating. Hugh's proud of his piano playing and songwriting, and referred to his parents' background in music hall entertainment to help develop Alex's vision of a genre-encompassing rock show. His own experiences of excess and over-indulgence led directly to hospitalisation - but fortunately he came out the other side.
TED MCKENNA is Hugh's cousin and began his musical career with Hugh. The business of creating noise with feeling is one he takes very seriously, to the extent of taking hours over perfecting the sound of each of his drums or losing the rag with bandmates. There's still time for him to talk about some touchingly naive moments from his career - including the night he became convinced the band were going to have him shot.
MAX MAXWELL Where to begin or end? A man faced with arguably the hardest job in music, replacing the late, great Alex Harvey, WITHOUT trying to be him. With a similar background, and a deep routed love of Alex and SAHB that could only ever come from being first and foremost a true fan, Max proves that he is more than capable of doing the job of fronting one of the most dynamic acts in rock. But... the SAHB story has never been an easy read,and its still weaving,twisting & turning even when you just want it to go straight ahead.
And after a sold out tour in 2007, 2008 was looking good,then came Zal Clemison’s shock retirement announcement, So once again S.A.H.B had to face the impossible task of decideing whether or not to carry on.
So with a deep breath the band took a sideways step and brought in an old friend of Ted's - MR JULIAN HUTSON SAXBY,who the band thought would be the ideal choice to deliver the music with the original style,that fans had not heard for many years.And with Julian not trying to be a replacement for ZAL (who could) he has brought with him the classic sound that so many had asked for!! I believe that there's an upsurge ,at the amount, of 'young people' rediscovering 'old gems'. Original and authentic work from the pre-punk era and indeed without bands like SAHB punk would be a poorer bedfellow. To know them is to love them, Shine on and Rock on The Sensational Alex Harvey Band.
