Vampire Records is a label created by Phil Aslett formerly of Source Direct.
The label has been set up to release Drum and Bass music of all styles and will feature many different artists.
The concept behind Vampire Records is the relation between the nocturnal behavior of Clubbers and Vampires.
Vampire has constant evolution and is platform for established artists and up and coming talent.
The birth of the label was at the end of 2006. It has grown from strength to strength over the last couple of years.
Vampire is still growing to this day but it has staying power in the world of Drum and Bass and is up to its 10th single release.
All of the releases are still selling which proves that the music has shelf life and is non-disposable.
It was very important to Phil Source at the birth of the label that it would have credibility with the old school, as well as the new breed of Drum and Bass fan.
Some of the artists that have featured on the singles so far are Teebee, Grand Masterz, Stranjah and Gremlinz, System, Bal, Kiat, Soul Intent, Method One, Resound, ASC, NC-17 and Henree.
The first release on Vampire featured “Teebee” who is now one of the most respected Producers on the Drum and Bass circuit and a past engineer of Photek. This release also featured “Grand Masterz” who consists of Phil Source from Source Direct and DeBoy Mancini a newcomer to the Drum and Bass scene but not to the industry being related to “Henri Mancini” the original composer of “The Pink Panther” soundtrack.
The History: Phil Source (Source Direct)
Source Direct originated back in (1992) as Sounds of Life who were first engineered by Rupert Parkes. He is known as the legendary Photek. Phil’s first ever Sounds of Life tracks were released on Certificate 18 and were supported immediately by the likes of Fabio, Peshay, Doc Scott and LTJ Bukem.
Phil then went on to record tracks for his own imprint Source Direct in (1994-1999) famous for big tunes like ”Snake style” and “The Crane.” Numerous releases on Goldie’s Metalheadz imprint (1995-1998). LTJ Bukem’s Good Looking Records (1995) and James Lavelle’s Mo Wax recordings (1996) set him up to be approached by Richard Branson’s Virgin Records and MCA Music Publishing for a major record deal (1996-1999). Having collaborated on two Albums for Virgin by (1999) and toured the world with the Source Direct sound (1995-1999). Phil was then asked to produce music for the Hollywood blockbuster “Blade” featuring Wesley Snipes. Having had a long break from the Drum and Bass scene (2000-2006)
Phil Aslett is back and his full attention is now focused on his new imprint Vampire Records.
The focus for Vampire in 2009 and onwards is artist and label albums. On the 1st of April 2009 Vampire released its first label album “Once Bitten Twice High” which was a big success. The album featured some of the best tracks from the first 10 releases on the label, plus new and exclusive tracks from current and new artists such as Krone, Nusense, Nymfo, Survival, Method One and Stunna, Resound, Jem One, Strago, Rregula, NC-17, ASC, System and Phil Source, Henree, Sabre and Zero T, Amaning, The Untouchables, Gremlinz, System and Teebee.
