Vinsantos has been an acclaimed performance artist and musician in the San Francisco underground since the early 90's. In 2006 he caught the attention of post punk icon David J (Bauhaus/Love and Rockets). Vinsantos at the time was compiling material that would soon be his first full length solo recording. He recorded a demo version with band mate Marc Kate and delivered it to David at a Bauhaus gig in southern California. Soon after that, the two had their first sit down meeting. The direction of the project became clear. David would step in as producer. They chose Tiny Telephone Studios in San Francisco (with engineer Aaron Prellwitz) for it's extensive analog recording capabilities. In 2007 ,with a brilliant cast of band mates, Vinsantos, David and Aaron spent the better part of a month finishing "A LIGHT AWAKE INSIDE". Set in a modern day Barbary Coast, the sound is best desribed as Glam Cabaret. Broken pianos, orchestral drums, tainted guitars, stellar strings and the occasional lick of the sarod all lend to this unique sound. The album features guest appearances by David J and alternative music luminary Jarboe. Vinsantos' original, sometimes scabrous vocals tell the story of a shattered performers' struggle for recognition in a world filled with unrequited love and angst held together by a golden thread of perpetual hope.
