History |
Anjali left the group Mambo Taxi to start the Voodoo Queens in late 1992. After only one concert, they were offered a "Peel Session" by BBC DJ John Peel. This was recorded in January 1993. The band signed to Too Pure Records, with whom they recorded the majority of their work before branching out to form Voodoo records and releasing the labels sole release, the 7" 'Eat The Germs'. Other radio and TV appearances followed on the likes of Naked City and The Beat. They recorded but one lonely album and a number of singles before the band broke up in 1995.
Anjali went on to become a well established solo artist in her own right leaving the bands fuzz punk roots behind her.
Ella Drauglis, under the name of Ella Guru, joined the Stuckist artists in 1999 and plays with her husband Sexton ming in the Deptford Beach Babes and was later joined my Mary deagin. Stefy now drums with the ever so wonderfully holocaustic s(wankers)!

The Peel Sessions CD | | Heroes | So what did they sound like I hear you cry?
Well for those of you that never had the pleasure of seeing or hearing the girls, follow this simple recipe.
Take one teaspoon of the Raincoats, add four grams of Patti Smith, blend in a generous supply of Dick Dale and stir until mixed with the Ramones album of your choice. Once mixed cover with the Slits and bake until Babes In Toylandish. Remove from the oven and gently apply some Dead Kennedys as a topping and finish off by sprinkling with the Cramps. Allow to cool and violently serve up to Lemmy.

Voodoo Queens's Blurbs |
About me:
The Voodoo Queens were a London-based pop/ punk/ super-duper/ surf/ freakbeat/ thrash-happy girl group, who reached number one in the Indie Charts in 1993.
Though this page is not directly linked to any of the Queens, it serves as the first and only (as far as I am aware) web resource for these choco-obssessed matriarchs of noise.
