INFO: "Marie's Sister's Garden" is the second full-length offering from seminal Doom evangelists Voodooshock and their first release for Exile On Mainstream Records. Four long years since the release of their debut album certainly proves their doomy work ethics, however you will know it's been well worth the wait once you hear this Doom Rock masterpiece, if not a soon-to-be-classic, that Voodooshock have produced. Voodooshock was founded in 1998 by former NAEVUS frontman Uwe Groebel. NAEVUS released one album on Lee Dorrian's (Cathedral) label Rise Above Records and put Uwe on the map of current Doom Rock with a bang. His guitar playing, voice and utterly brilliant feel for the soul of a heavy riff has gained him respect throughout the underground music scene worldwide. After the demise of NAEVUS, Uwe formed Voodooshock to further explore his dark side and pay his respects to great influences like Cathedral, Saint Vitus, The Obsessed, Revelation, Penance and Pentagram. Over the next 8 years, Voodooshock underwent various line-up changes and released several 7 inches singles before Uwe found the company of duo Claus-Peter Hamisch and Ingmar Petersen of DoomJazz outfit Beehoover (who have recently released an outstanding album on Exile On Mainstream). The combined effort of this feast of friends has given birth to what you are now holding in your hands and what a diamond it is! Well woven structures of riffs and soulful vocals culminates to form songs full of emotion and heart-warming Doom Rock. The sound, songwriting and production of "Marie's Sister's Garden" puts it in the same league as classic albums such as "Be Forewarned", "V" and "Forest Of Equilibrium". Delivering a fine dose of slow moving anthems rooted in Sabbath tradition, it speeds up from time to time to paint a vivid picture of the emotional dealings of the human soul. Its bluesy structures, warming guitar sounds, pounding bass lines and drum patterns are all essentially shaped by feelings of hopelessness and dejection. That's what we call the essence of Doom, and Voodooshock fire it straight to your gut and stir it around with a middle finger. >From the opening track "Please Let All Truth In Your Heart", a >psalm-like anthem, through to the melodic waves of the title track and the death march hymn "Funeral Farewell" the album needs only three songs to wrap up everything that is described as Doom Rock. The first climax is reached when the pounding drum-intro of "Truth" creeps in and Voodooshock take you on a roller coaster ride through the dark covens of riff-meister Uwe's underworld. "Custom-made But Sacrificed" follows, sung by bass player Ingmar Petersen which will mesmerize with a pumping string rampage dissolved in a beautiful melody. "Marie's Sister's Garden" unfolds into a heartfelt, inspired and thoughtfully arranged album that sucks you in and never lets go. There's nothing more to add. This is how it should be done. BIOGRAPHY: Uwe Groebel began playing guitar with the age of 14. Heroes were Steve Vai and Hendrix. The first band he founded was NAEVUS from 1991 to 1999 playing guitars and providing vocals. In beginning, it sounded more like a slow death-metal band in the vein of Anathema/ My Dying Bride/ Asphyx and developed more and more into this rock/doom, greatly influenced by Black Sabbath. NAEVUS recorded three demos including the last demo "Autumn Sun" in 1996 before signing a deal with Lee Dorrians' Rise Above Records in London, England. The debut album was recorded in 1997, seeing a release in 1998. In 1999, they were released from the label due to lack of funds and a change in distribution, so the band decided to split in May that year. The two other members from NAEVUS, Mathias Straub plays in Sacred Steel, Oliver Grosshans now plays in My Darkest Hate. After the demise of NAEVUS, Uwe formed Voodooshock, enlisting various drummers and bass players until the first Voodooshock demo was recorded in 2000 with Matze Siffermann and Oli Merkle from End of Green. In 2001 he was joined by Michael Greilinger (bass) and Christian Specker (drums). 2002 saw the release of the self-titled debut album, recorded in just 5 days but gaining the respect and hails by the international Doom scene. The re-release of the demo with two extra songs in 2004 and a split 7" with Conans Iron Kind (US) happened via Psychedoomelic Records and Game Two Records (US). In June 2005 Voodooshock returned to the rehearsal room with two new band members. Ingmar Petersen on bass guitar and Claus-Peter Hamisch on drums who also play in Beehoover (www.beehoover.com). All three band members became fathers over the last year which severely delayed the recordings of the new album. In September 2005 Voodooshock recorded two songs for a 7" single on Psychedoomelic Records. "The Golden Beauty" and "Live For The Moment" were released in May 2006 and sold out within weeks. At the end of December 2006, Voodooshock entered the studio again and laid down their new material "Marie's Sister's Garden" to tape in just 4 days. 2007 will see the band playing several shows, including a prime slot on the mighty SOUTH OF MAINSTREAM FESTIVAL in September 2007.
