Vortex a vu le jour dans les années '90 dans la région de Rimouski. Le groupe est composé d'anciens membres de groupes de divers styles métal qui n'existent plus mais qui ont marqués, à leur façon, la scène Rimouskoise. Le groupe qui cumule 3 disques et des centaines de spectacles au Québec et dans les maritimes a croisé le fer avec des groupes tel que Buried Inside, Behemoth et Misery Index. La musique de Vortex est un alliage composé de différentes formes de métal et de hardcore. Le groupe est sous la tutelle du label Montréalais Galy Records depuis 2005.
