About me:
I am an author and biographer. My latest book is Catherine the Great: Love, Sex and Power which deals with Catherine the woman, her loves, interests, the things which made her laugh, how she became the person she was, her family and friends, and the life of the court of St Petersburg in the 18th century. I've also written a book on French courtesans, and co-authored three books on aspects of church administration. Plus I review books for the Sunday Times, the Sunday Telegraph, the Guardian and the Independent. Look out for more details on my TypePad blog.

Who I'd like to meet:
Other writers, readers and lovers of history. I'd particularly like to meet other writers who are as frustrated as I am by the inability of publishers to market and sell books (an inability which they invariably blame on authors) - and work out what we might collectively do about it.

Whoring myself – something I swore I’d never do. Please don’t hate me. If the idea of me posting a blog from my (as yet unpublished) book on your page is pointless and gross just press ‘Deny’. I’ll understand. But if you don’t mind, have a look...

Yes its not fair to compare, but for me real life is more impotant than art even if they are linked together in many ways !
I have also read Mr.Troyat..s bio, but liked much better Mr Kjetsaa..s Bio. Also Tatyana Tolstoy about my father, Maksim Gorkij..s Memories of Tolstoj. And a book based on his wifes diarys, cant remember the name of the writer !

Have you read some of the biographys about Lev ?
You see.. for me the person is much greater than his novels !

I read your "about me" and thought wow cool(yes a terribly literary reaction). Your book on Catherine the Great sounds intriguing(and I'm sure you didn't spend too much time on her Love of horses--LOL).
Thanks for bringing me into your circle of friends.
