HELLISH WAR – 21st CENTURY CLASSIC METAL
Since your birth in the end of the seventies, heavy metal was one of the most changing types of music. From your classical form made by bands such as Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, the style turned heavier and faster with bands such as Metallica, Slayer and Venom. During the nineties, bands like Morbid Angel and Entombed took those characteristics to the extreme and created death metal. At the same time, some Norwegian musicians where putting some satanic elements on it and the rest of the history everybody knows. All these new elements where relevant and meant new horizons to the style, although, nobody can deny that the most creative and important period for metal music where during the eights when all the artists where playing the true and original classic metal. And back then, during this “magic era”, that HELLISH WAR got your inspiration to make your own kind of classic metal.
The guitar player Vulcano, that started playing in 1986 with other local bands from Campinas city (São Paulo), formed HELLISH WAR in 1995. Initially, his idea was to settle the band as a power-trio. HELLISH WAR recorded the band’s first demo-tape in 1996. Named The Sign, this effort was a big success and got very enthusiastic reviews on press. Everybody was impressed about the band back then: how a new group formed during the grunge movement could make authentic music and at the same time keep it true to the original formula of classic metal? Soon, the title track “The Sign” turned the hymn of that Brazilian heavy metal generation.
In 1997, Roger Hammer (vocals), Gabriel Gostautas (bass) and Daniel Job (guitars) joined the band. With these additional experienced musicians, HELLISH WAR got stronger. This was proved during the first gigs with the new line-up: Vulcano’s typical guitar playing got extra force with Daniel’s virtuosity. Roger Hammer also contributed with an impressive vocal range.
THE FIRST ALBUM
The good results on stages impressed the directors of the Brazilian record label Megahard Records. Back then, Megahard was one of the most emerging labels in rock and metal scene. With a contract offering, they went to the studio and started recording this first album.
Defender of Metal was released in 2001 under a high expectative. The album was very well received by public and press, getting very high rates on the most important magazines. Outside Brazil, the album was also going well, mainly in Portugal, Germany and Japan. The people from these countries where very impressed with HELLISH WAR’S peculiar style when playing pure and classic metal. They toured all the Brazilian country promoting Defender Of Metal playing in 50 different cities. Two gigs in special deserve to be mentioned: HELLISH WAR got the opportunity to play with the German metal legend UDO Dirkschneider in São Paulo and with the NWOBHM heroes Saxon in Curitiba, capital of Paraná state. During the tour, new line-up changes: the drummer Jayr Costa left and Daniel Person came in. JR was the new bass player in substitution to Gabriel Gostautas.
HELLISH WAR was gaining even more technique ability. The band was emerging to higher levels of musical quality and popularity and they needed more business support from the label. They could not get what they want and decided to leave the label, once there were proposals from other companies. Feeling that they were up to loose a very promising artist, Megahard started to put some extra difficulties to avoid the contractual dissolution. Besides, the new HELLISH WAR album was taking form and Megahard decided to make a new offer to them and try to carry on with the partnership. Now the band had a very professional studio to record the new album in São Paulo and all the other conditions to do it. In fact, the recordings were going well when they faced new problems with the label. That was the final point. There was no way to keep the deal with Megahard Records. The result? All the recorded material got lost!
HEROES OF TOMORROW ....
Finally free from contractual obligations, HELLISH WAR got locked in Sincopa Studios – one of the best Brazilian recording studios – to record again the entire second album. With a better approach and a real smooth production, the band decided to release the album by themselves and follow the market tendencies.
Heroes of Tomorrow is finally on the Brazilians CDs Stores and it brings 10 new tracks composed by the entire band and that keeps the essence and energy of their early days plus a surprising technical evolution.

HELLISH WAR - EUROPEAN FIRST ASSAULT TOUR 2009
Baptized as "European First Assault Tour", the first HELLISH WAR's European tour will begin on September, 04th in Worblaufen, Switzerland at Downstairs Pub, and will include four different festivals appearances: 05/09 at Back To Rock in Switzerland, 12/09 at SwordBrothers Festival in Germany and 18/09 and 19/09 at Razorblade Festival, also in Germany, where the group will be the only attraction to play on the two days of the event. Other dates of the "European First Assault Tour" are: 08/09 at The Frontline in Gent/Belgium; 09/09 at De Rots in Antwerp/Belgium, 13/09 at Die Halle in Frankfurt/Germany and 17/09 at Kanslös in Den Haag/The Netherlands.
HELLISH WAR SIGNS RECORD DEAL WITH PURE STEEL RECORDS
HELLISH WAR keeps on conquering territory in the old world. On the eve of it's first european tour, the Brazilian old school classic metal band just signed a deal with the german record label Pure Steel Records. The contract will provide the release of the two albuns of the band, Defender Of Metal (2001) and Heroes Of Tomorrow (2008). Both will be reunited in a very special 2CD-pack and will include two bonus tracks. The Defender Of Metal album also got a new remastered version.
The albuns will be released in the entire european territory on August, 28th.

HELLISH WAR – HEAVY METAL CLÁSSICO NO SÉCULO XXI
Desde seu surgimento no final da década de 70, o heavy metal foi um dos gêneros musicais que mais sofreu transformações. Da sua forma clássica através de bandas como Iron Maiden e Judas Priest, o estilo ganhou mais peso e velocidade com bandas da segunda metade dos anos 80 como Metallica, Slayer e Venom. Na década de 90 bandas como Morbid Angel e Entombed iam ainda mais além nesses aspectos inaugurando assim o death metal. No mesmo período, grupos noruegueses como Mayhem e Emperor enfatizavam o elemento “satânico” do som já muito brutal e veloz. Mas de todos esses períodos distintos do heavy metal, não há como negar que seu auge aconteceu mesmo durante a década de 80, quando o estilo ainda se encontrava em sua forma mais pura. E foi nessa “era mágica” do metal que a banda campineira Hellish War foi buscar inspiração.
O guitarrista Vulcano - que desde 1986 atuava em bandas locais da região de Campinas - fundou o Hellish War em 1995. Inicialmente sua idéia era formar um “power-trio”. Em 1996, a banda grava sua primeira demo tape. Intitulada “The Sign”, o trabalho foi super elogiado pela crítica especializada no Brasil. Era impressionante como um grupo formado durante o auge do movimento grunge conseguia ser tão autentico e ao mesmo tempo fiel ao formato mais clássico de um estilo musical que se transformava constantemente. A faixa título “The Sign” logo transformou-se num hino do metal brasileiro da época.
Em 1997, Roger Hammer, Gabriel Gostautas e Daniel Job chegam ao HELLISH WAR. Com essa formação o Hellish War ganhou força extra, o que pôde ser sentido em seus novos shows que se tornavam cada vez mais explosivos. O estilo peculiar da guitarra de Vulcano agora ganhava força extra com a técnica de Daniel Job. Roger Hammer também trouxe uma potencia vocal ao som da banda que impressionava.
O PRIMEIRO ÁLBUM
A boa repercussão nos palcos de São Paulo e interior impressionaram os diretores da gravadora Megahard Records que, na ocasião, destacava-se como um dos principais selos especializados em metal na época. Com contrato assinado, puderam então entrar em estúdio para gravar seu primeiro disco.
Defender of Metal foi lançado em 2001 sob grande expectativa. Calorosamente bem recebido pelo público, o álbum caiu nas graças da imprensa roqueira do Brasil e obteve excelentes avaliações nos principais veículos. No exterior, também ganharam notoriedade em países como Portugal, Alemanha e Japão que se impressionavam com o Hellish War e seu estilo tão peculiar e purista de se fazer heavy metal. A turnê de divulgação do álbum varreu estados do sul e sudeste do país com shows em mais de 50 cidades. Destaque para as apresentações no Directv em São Paulo ao lado do alemão U.D.O. (legendário vocalista do Accept) e no Moinho São Roque em Curitiba quando foram convidados pela lenda inglesa Saxon para fazer o show de abertura. Durante a turnê, novas mudanças ocorrem na banda: Jayr Costa é substituído pelo baterista Daniel Person e JR é o substituto de Gabriel Gostautas no baixo.
O Hellish War ganhava ainda mais vigor e habilidade técnica. A banda, que atingia níveis cada vez mais altos de qualidade e popularidade, demandava mais investimento e atenção da gravadora. Sem o comprometimento que esperavam, o Hellish War decidiu rescindir o contrato com a Megahard Records, já que novos selos estavam interessados na banda. A gravadora, por sua vez, não querendo perder um artista já consolidado, dificultou o processo de rescisão contratual. A partir daí a banda passou a travar um longo período de batalhas com os diretores do selo no sentido de se ver livre do antigo contrato e poder dar seqüência a sua carreira. Em paralelo aos problemas administrativos, o segundo álbum da banda começava a tomar forma. Numa tentativa de restabelecimento contratual, a Megahard oferece novas condições ao Hellish War. A banda agora contava com toda infra-estrutura de um bom estúdio na capital paulista para produção de seu segundo álbum. As gravações iam a todo vapor quando novos desentendimentos surgiram com o selo. Agora não havia mais condições de manter o contrato. O prejuízo? Todo material já gravado fora perdido.
HEROES OF TOMORROW
Já livres de obrigações contratuais, o Hellish War entra no renomado Sincopa Estúdios em Campinas para re-gravar todo seu segundo e novo álbum. Melhor lapidado e com uma produção ímpar, a banda decide trilhar o caminho independente atendendo à tendência de mercado.
Heroes of Tomorrow finalmente chega agora às lojas de todo Brasil trazendo 10 novas faixas que foram compostas por toda banda e que mantêm o vigor e energia do início de carreira aliado a uma evolução técnica surpreendente.

HELLISH WAR FECHA CONTRATO COM A PURE STEEL RECORDS
O HELLISH WAR continua desbravando território no velho mundo. Às vésperas de sua primeira turnê européia, a banda de heavy metal clássico old school acaba de fechar contrato com a gravadora alemã Pure Steel Records. O contrato vai proporcionar o lançamento dos dois álbuns da banda, Defender Of Metal (2001) e Heroes Of Tomorrow (2008), que estarão reunidos em um especialíssimo pacote duplo numerado incluindo duas faixas bônus. O clássico Defender Of Metal também recebeu nova masterização especialmente para esse lançamento.
