shipwrecked now
on the raft
on my belly
my arm leaning over the side
w/my hand in the sea
soaking deep cuts carved by rope
I was clinging to
marooned like
some kind of driftwood
I think of the lighthouse keeper
I try to think of one thing
but it always turns out to be two
the lighthouse
the lighthouse keeper
one inside the other
beacon slowly turning round
round stairs inside
up and down
round and round
up and down
in my mind
I even hear the foghorn
moan
on my back now
thundercloud over me
it bursts
filling my open mouth
surprise
I will not die
of thirst
this day
I've discovered there's other folks named mike watt but I'm the one frompedrowho works thethudstafffor a living. I am the son of a sailor, he worked engine rooms for the navy. I got into playing music w/my best friend d. boon (his ma put me on bass when I was thirteen) and we're mostly known for a band we started in 1980 calledthe minutemen. after he was killed in a van wreck in 1985, I played w/ed fROMOHIO and minutemen drummer george hurley for seven and half years as fIREHOSE 'til 1994. since then, I wrap units of cats around projects though I've had a two-bass-only band calleddosnow for twenty plus years w/kira. I'm also on bass for the re-ignitedstoogeswhich is a total mindblow. a lot more info on me is at the web site I maintain,http://hootpage.comwhich I callmike watt's hoot page and you can see where I'm making the low flow next there.
folks, I have to tell you I've had my inbox swamped... holy smoke! if I don't get back to you, please understand but I am trying. you might have better luck posting a question at the mike watt bbs... and as for comments, I'm most grateful for the generous words but you don't have to thank me for the add cuz I thank you for giving me a hoot in the first place - don't worry, it's much understood. I also have found the servers here are kind of slow so to help things load quicker, please scissor the graphics for a post and please know that this myspace place sometimes tosses comments into the vortex - that's beyond my control and I'm sorry if it happens to you. thanks much.
Dear Mike, I found out about you a few years ago thanks to an interview I saw of the Bass player of Sublime, and he said awesome things about you and I figured I must find out who this "Mike Watt" is... I ended up buying you DVD "we jam econo" and the whole philosophy behind what you guys did blew my mind. You are an amazing bass player Mike!!!! Seeing that you still go at it the way you do is very inspiring and hope you keep going forever!!!!
you inspired me to play bass in the first place! when i was thirteen my mom bought me double nickels because it was in the "punk" section and had more songs on it than any other cd thanks for being so great.. also awesome show in montreal with the secondmen 4 or 5 years ago... still have your book!
you guys really sounded great in brazil. i watched the whole thing. absolutley great gig. you nailed it. everyone did. james sounded so good. man, that tone... cool, brother! stay in there wailin'...
hey mike, Your music and influences formed me since I was a little kid. Funny how we get older together :-) While recording our latest song for our upcoming debut Bjoern and I got a bit riot.
You can listen to "Peaks in Remarks"on our profil right now.
Thanks for the add & the kind words. I've been a big fan since hearing the mighty Minutemen. It's great to hear you with The Stooges, bringing your ever-inventive bass playing on board.
