“It’s a long way to the top if you wanna rock n’ roll,” says AC/DC, and for We Are The Fury the message rings loud and clear. We Are The Fury formed out of high school friends in 2004 in the suburbs of Toledo, Ohio. Soon after the bands creation, they began recording with Tim Patalan (Sponge, The Fags, Lovedrug) in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The music fell somewhere between the early glam androgyny of David Bowie, the angst ridden youthful passion of My Chemical Romance, and the hipster fashion of Hot Hot Heat. Not long after the band self-funded and recorded their e.p. “Infinite Jest,” Glassjaw/Head Automatica frontman, Daryl Palumbo, caught wind of the band and immediately expressed interest in helping out WATF by taking them on tour with his, then. new project: Head Automatica.
Soon after, both major and independent record labels began approaching WATF. The band, after careful deliberation, signed with OneBigSpark/Eastwest: a subsidiary corporation of Purevolume.com and Warner Bros. Records. OneBigSpark/Eastwest re-released WATF’s “Infinite Jest” in the USA, Canada and Japan.
When it came time for WATF to record their first full length, “Venus,” the band had a range of big-name producers interested in doing the record, however, the band opted to record once again with Tim Patalan and have Daryl Palumbo co-produce the album. Daryl Palumbo also performed guest vocals on two tracks, “So Physical” and “Still Don’t Know Your Name.” Immediately following tracking the album, the band hit the road and didn’t come home for two years. In that two years the band toured with such monumental acts as Silverchair, Electric Six, Head Automatica, Men Women, and Children, and even the legendary New York Dolls invited WATF on their 2008 headlining tour as direct support. While the album received a great amount of praise from noteworthy publications such as Rolling Stone, Alternative Press, Spin, Nylon and even Penthouse and Redbook, the band eventually was told four months after the album’s delayed release that their label was folding and did not have the money to further promote the record or the band.
WATF left the tour with The New York Dolls on a bittersweet note, coming home label-less and broke. Soon after getting home, drummer Stephan Lublin decided to leave the band to pursue culinary school. Before leaving, Stephan agreed to stay on through the summer to write and record new material with the band. The band spent the next few months writing an additional twenty new songs, twelve of which were recorded at Axiom Studios in their hometown of Toledo, Ohio. Not soon after the band started tracking in the studio, the band was faced with yet another hurdle: a flash flood submerged their rehearsal space destroying most of their equipment. Still, the band fought on and recorded a batch full of brand new tunes. The new material ended up being a positive release for the band. While most bands are concerned with the newest trend or that one forgettable radio single, WATF opted to record new songs reminiscent more of the glory days of rock n roll.
In October of 2008, vocalist Jeremy Lublin, guitarist Chris Hatfield, bassist Alan Hoffar, and keyboardist Brady Leffler relocated from their Midwest home in Ohio for a permanent residence in Los Angeles, California. Soon after moving to L.A., the band found their new drummer Jordan Plosky, formerly of Perry Farrell’s band Satellite Party.
The band is currently playing out and about in Southern California as well as doing fly out dates and college shows. While the band has no label or agent on board, they have begun shopping new material to labels while they adjust to their new home. With over 25,000 albums and e.p.’s sold, almost a Million plays online, tons of rave press reviews, and a load of great tours under their belt, We Are The Fury are poised to show the world that regardless of an unpredictable music industry, Rock n Roll will survive.
