Possessing a sound that transcends the predictability and cliches of contemporary hip-hop music, Wee Bee Foolish has proven to be as challenging as they are accessible. The group, consisting of four members: Ken Boogaloo, Yesh (a.k.a. Yeshua dapoED), DJ Bless, & Xtraordinaire, has cultivated a loyal indie hip-hop following, Having already navigated the New York City hip-hop scene with appearances at such venues as Wetlands, S.O.B.s, Nuyorican Poets Café, Knitting Factory, South Paw, North 6 and also touring in Europe and the US. They are now poised to make their voices heard on the worldwide stage.
Wee Bee Foolishs goal is to create well produced, conceptually solid, but fun music that plays to the intelligence of their listeners instead of insulting it. Evidence of this notion can be seen in the irony of the groups name itself. The members of Wee Bee Foolish are anything but. Collectively hailing from the Brighton Beach section of Brooklyn, NY, Wee Bee Foolish draws from their experiences as lifelong friends to create a unified and coherent sound. However, even individually the members of the group have formidable credentials that highlight their talents.
Ken Boogaloo has showcased his crisp, clever flows with frequent radio appearances, battles and numerous recording projects. The best examples of his lyrical proficiency can be seen in his work with the respected London producers Next Men (Scenario Records, 75 Ark), Beyond There (Scenario Records). Ken Boogaloos skills are also evident in his involvement on the track Glass Bottom Boat featured on the 1996 Fondle Em EP release Visualz by Siah and Yeshua dapoEDwidely considered to be a classic by independent hip-hop aficionados.
Wee Bee Foolishs second front man, Yesh, has also enjoyed a prolific and fruitful career as a solo artist. Besides theaforementioned Visuals project that won him acclaim (Which is currently out of print, and has been known to accumulate high bids on auction sites such as ebay), Yesh has contributed his talents to releases on Fondle Em, Raw Shack, Ninja Tune, E.Y.A., OM records, Scenario, CP records, Ill Boogie records, and Mary Joy Recordings. Yesh has also lent his production talents to various projects, including but not limited to, the forthcoming Wee Bee Foolish LP. His accomplished work as head of his label underscores Yeshs work ethic; a quality that has kept his lyrical style fresh, intelligent, and constantly evolving. Despite the accolades Yesh continues working to change any perceptions of a lack of exposure. I look in magazines every month, he states, and I havent been seeing [our] names enough. I want that cover!
The pursuit of respect and a voice for Wee Bee Foolish is capably cultivated by the attention grabbing sounds created by DJ Bless. In his capacities as DJ and Producer, DJ Bless creates music that ranges from the infectiously smooth, to potent, head nodding rhythmic contractions. While complimenting the talents of the lyricists, DJ Bless twists the potential energy of turntables and MPC 2000s into kinetic sonic landscapes that call for his listeners to turn the volume up. Behind decks since the age of 13, DJ Bless draws from experiences in a family of DJs and music lovers a distinct style. His talents, in concert with Xtraordinaires love for various styles of music make Wee Bee Foolishs sound polished and innovative.
Xtraordinaire, Wee Bee Foolish's third producer, is considered the icing on what is already a well-stacked cake. While not as frequently prominent, his contribution is essential to the group's musical dynamic.
