Your hosts: Nick Cope, Marty Violence, Pomonkey, Rahmin Pavlovic, Josch Chodakowsky, DJ Honky and Keith D'arcy
7.30 to 10.30? What's up with that?
It's our "early doors" experiment: we want to enjoy Weird Gear without having to wait until 11.00 pm. Let's have an after work decompression session, relax, have some wine without having to stay out til 4am and start the weekend with the hangover from hell - who does that anymore? And at our age?!
What is Weird Gear?
Weird Gear is genre jumping music with an edge, that lives
beyond your listening pleasure. This edge usually manifests as some
kind of a beat Weird Gear is often very groovy. Common feedback from
people exposed to Weird Gear in bars and clubs is: "I don't know what
this is, but it's very groovy."
Will I like Weird Gear?
If you're the kind of person likes to sing along to music you already
know and love, then Weird Gear probably isn't for you. If you're the
kind of person interested in hearing new things, then you should check
out some Weird Gear.
How do I find some Weird Gear then?
You don't find Weird Gear, Weird Gear finds you. Whether or not you
choose to hold onto the Weird Gear that finds you says whether you
appreciate Weird Gear or not. After all, Weird Gear isn't for
everyone.
Is there a history to the Weird Gear scene?
In Europe, there have been small pockets of Weird Gear appreciators
over the years. Arguably, the first Weird Gear compilation came out in
1996 - called Beat Actione - the chief architect of which is Weird Gear
DJ, Nick Cope. Since then, Weird Gear enthusiasts have amassed
themselves through the Vinyl Vulture website and forum, the monthly
London-based Brillo meets, and notably through events organized
through the hard work of the B-Music collective and an amazing series
of reissues, compilations and mixes by Finders Keepers Records.
In America, the Weird Gear scene is just starting out. Between B-Music
and Weird Gear, there have already been parties held in New York, Los
Angeles and Milwaukee (an unexpected source of Weird Gear).
