About me: The new West Valley Branch, opened in May 2003, is a warm and inviting place where you can hang out at the Internet Café, do homework in one of our group study rooms, or relax and read by the fireplace in the community living room. Our library serves a diverse local community of more than 50,000 people. Features include a large collection of books, DVDs, CDs, and more for all ages and in multiple languages, seating for 188 library users, a community room for 209 visitors, a technology center with more than 30 computers for public internet use throughout the building, a storytelling area for children, an after-school homework center, free WiFi access throughout the building, and an area just for teens.
We have plenty of stuff happening all the time at West Valley, including performers, speakers, movies, authors, holiday events, craft activities, TeensReach volunteer meetings, book clubs, children's story times, computer training, ESL conversation club, and more! We're Green!
Early in 2004, West Valley received LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification by the U. S. Green Building Council for its environmentally-friendly and innovative building design. West Valley Branch is the first San Jose City facility, and the first library in the world, to receive this distinction. The planet loves us!
Who I'd like to meet: YOU! If you haven't visited yet, check us out and prepare to be amazed by all of the great (and free!) materials and programs we have to offer!
Thanks for the add. I hope you’ll check out my new tween novel, GIVING UP THE GHOST, set on a haunted plantation near New Orleans two years after Hurricane Katrina. It’s my dearest wish that my novel’s themes of fear, grief, and forgiveness, leavened with humor and gripped by a ghostly mystery, will bring comfort and healing to young teens living with uncertainty in unsettling times.
