I've been thinking of my early influences - how lucky I was that we had 8-tracks when I was little!! At three years old, my chubby little fingers could manage to pop in the Blondie so I could rock out. And vinyl!!! I spent hours and hours lying on the living room floor listening to and staring at John Lennon and Leon Redbone and the beautiful 'lady' in the Rocky Horror Picture Show and the (then beautiful) fold-out Michael Jackson and Olivia Newton-John (I paid homage to this photo on the back cover of my record). And then I discovered Prince..... I became his devoted subject until I was about 18. I am incessantly inspired by everyone I know who continues to make music. Thank you for bringing it into my life!
these days - Joni Mitchell, de Beauvoir and whatever I call it it will be cheesy - my truth, my creative well however you want to describe listening to yourself.
"Her voice is sweet!" (The Uniter)
Katie Murphy's playful pop with shades of roots and soul has struck a chord with her growing audience. With the release of her acclaimed solo debut, A Nest in a Box in 2006, Winnipeg's songbird ventured out of the nest, touring, showcasing and crossing paths with MTV: Murphy's record was licensed for use on Keeping Up With The Kardashians and Road Rules. Currently in the studio recording her follow-up album, Murphy's success began in 2006, when she collaborated with Toronto producers Version Xcursion: their song Pushing Flowers went to 1 on the CBC Galaxie Radio charts.
I just finished an EP and would love your feedback ! I've had my music up at Myspace now for a month and could use the support. Could you take a moment and let me know what you think ?
Hope you guys are great. All is good here. Still looking forward to playing together again. I'll be at the Winnepeg folk fest this year. Hopefully see you then. Love, rb
