  • Bio

Originally from Brooklyn NY, Willard Gellis is a free verse poet in the classic American genre. In the wild 60's Willard was a sideman and songwriter and a jinx to many Blues and Country revivalists. In the 70's he found himself in a succession of factory jobs...working on the line and living fast throughout the midwest & southeast. As an activist for Civil Rights and an anti-nuclear protester he visited many correctional facilities. Because the corrections didn't take, he kept on ramblin'. In the 80's, he continued his activist and rambling ways. In the 90's he settled into a 6 year stint as host of the infamous Peconic/Long Island public access shows Ideas and Images and The Abiding Voice. Here, Willard interveiwed and gave exposure to many performance artists and writers big and small. As of late, Willard has settled into teaching, publishing his writing, and performances. To date he has published 34 small press books. 2008 sees him working on a new full length CD release and another book "Sucking Chest Wound/Torch Tha Meek'
