The HRC Foundation released Buying for Equality 2009 today. Since 2006, more than 300,000 people have used Buying for Equality to make informed decisions about their purchases. In the current economy, consumers need to make their purchases carefully. Buying for Equality helps consumers identify where to shop and what to buy by highlighting stores, products and services from businesses that have demonstrated their commitment to workplace equality for LGBT Americans.
Ratings in Buying for Equality are based on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation's annual report card, the Corporate Equality Index. A record 260 businesses scored 100 percent on this year's report, which is a significant increase from the 195 businesses that earned a perfect score last year. With efforts like comprehensive partner benefits and protections for transgender workers, more businesses than ever before are demonstrating their commitment to LGBT workers and consumers.
