Influences
James Taylor, CSN&Y, David Wilcox. Dan Fogelberg, America, Jim Croce, Moody Blues, Pure Prairie League, Neil Young, Eric Clapton, Michael Johnson, Beatles, Eagles, Jackson Browne...And many many more...Including my original band mates, Roger Helton, Mike Rhode and Terry Phillips.
I'm Steve Robinson, currently living just north of Nashville with my beautiful wife Ali and two sweet teen kids, Kendyll and Kyle.
I grew up all over the States and several countries in Europe; The son of a fighter pilot and a nurse..
Our house was always filled with music and we came by it honestly with musicians on both sides of the family going back generations..Pianists, cellists, organists, trombonists and banjo players..I guess I was the first to pick up a guitar...And everybody sang...Always singing and harmonizing..That's what Methodists do : )
I played and sang in a family singing group in the Washington DC area during high school days and played professionally in duos and trios throughout high school and college with Mike Rhode and Roger Helton.
Following college, I played in the duo, "Robinson Rhodes" which soon turned into the trio "Robinson Rhodes & Phillips" - And eventually we picked up a drummer and bass player.
I've been writing songs since I was about 16 and over the past five years have begun writing a lot again..Just about every day-And co-writing with people across the country and in the UK.
My performing days are behind me except for some work at church and the ocassional writers night in the Nashville area. I write to share what's on my heart in hopes it will touch or inspire someone in some way...And like most, I hope someone hears a song and makes it there own...Actually, I hope this happens a lot!! The dream/fantasy/prayer is that someday..I can make a living as a writer...
I have a little recorder at home and I record just about everything I write and post my songs in many places on the net. Whenever I record a new song, I usually post it here for a couple weeks and I switch out the songs here periodically. I guess I have about 500 songs in my file and I've recorded about 100 in the last few years...Sooo....Check back often!!
Thanks for stopping by and listening..
In His Grip,
Steve
