   About www.felipetorres.net
Felipe was born in Germany, spent his childhood in Colombia, Staten Island and the last 15 years in New Jersey. He started playing drums at 14 with a private teacher, and in high school played in every group he could from marching band to chorus and was voted Band President by senior year. It was that year that Felipe started taking lessons at New York City's Drummers Collective with such notables as Sandy Gennaro, Mike Clark, Ian Froman, Guy Licata, Vince Cherico, Gary Kelly. Through the years in the New York area, Felipe also studied privately with Horacio "El Negro" Hernandez, Robby Ameen, Matt Johnson, Billy Ward, and Joe Ascione. Felipe has been performing, recording, teaching and touring for the last 10 years. He has done US and Canada tours with Dreamworks artists OURS, Road Runner Records blues artist Peter Karp and the Roadshow and jump/jazz band Jumptime, Lizard King Records rock band Surefire, The Monkees, and for the last few years as drummer/back-up vocalist for the Davy Jones Band. Felipe specializes in teaching beginners on drumset and orchestral percussion, reading, rudiments, and various styles of music. This winter, he received his first official endorsement with EVANS Drumheads. With the DAVY JONES BAND: For those that are interested, I play and Endorse Evans drum heads. I use Clear G1's on all the tom bottoms, Coated G2's on the batters, on the snare I use a Power Center Reverse dot batter and Hazy 300 snare bottom, Clear Emad and a ported Eq3 on the kick with an Evans EQ pillow againest the resonant head. For drums, I use Pearl Masters Custom Drums or Yamaha Stage Custom or Oak Custom Drums: 20" Kick, 12" x 8" rack tom, 14" x 14" and 16" x 16" floor toms, 5."' x 14" or 6.5" x 14" Maple or Brass snare drums. I use Pearl Single braced hardware, a single chain Power shifter for my kick and one for my pedal tambourine. For percussion, I use an LP Cyclops tambourine for the pedal with a Regal Tip Beater and Pearl holder, a mounted Pearl Brass tambourine, an LP Live shaker, a dinner bell, and a wooden whistle. For cymbals, I use Zildjian 13' K Hi Hats,a 20" K Medium Ride or 20" Constantinople Medium Thin Ride, and 17" and 18" K Dark Thin Crashes. For sticks, I use Vic Firth 5a American Classic Sticks with wood tips, Heritage Brushes, Rutes, Swizzle Sticks, double sided 6" work out pad, leather stick bag, Maraca sticks, and cartwheel timpani mallets. I also use an SM58 Microphone on a boom stand and drink Fiji water. FLIP OF THE WEEK 3 FLIP OF THE WEEK 2 FLIP OF THE WEEK 1

Neil Peart who? Dude, I just finished wathcing Flip Of The Week #3... Excellent stuff once again. It's another very useful video in my opinion. It's good to see you describe the rhythms (1 e + a 2...), where as most rock drummers in this world are clueless. Anyone who doesn't know how to count definately won't play well. Once again, you're one of the best, and this new video proves it.
Take care and Keep On Rockin' dude!
Joshua

Dude, thanks for the reply. I've slowly been watching the videos on your page, and man, I wish I discovered who you were when I picked up drum-sticks. Those flip of the week videos have got to be some of the most useful and educational vids I've ever seen on drumming. Charlie Watts, Max Weinberg, and Ringo Starr are my top three, but dude, you're definately on my list now when it comes to influences. I'm definatley surprised that I haven't heard of you before and I'm surprised that you're not widely recognized like those three. Maybe you are, but I never knew who you were until I saw Davy perform this year. I play traditional on a 4-piece which has caused me to be limited, but as I watch your vids, I'm slowly working on an expanded style. And dude, you kick my old highschool Drumline instructor's as* when it comes to knowledge and teaching from what I see on the vids. Thanks again for the add. Take care, best wishes, and keep on rockin' dude!

*I was curious because I saw the pic, and because of your last name, are you related to Bon Jovi's drummer?

Thanks for the add dude as it is very much appreciated. Just a drummer (& guitar strummer) myself. Little did I know that when I stumbled upon Davy's Epcot shows this year that he had an awesome drummer. I'd go as far as saying that you're right up thier with the greats man. Thanks again. Take care, best wishes, and keep on rockin' dude.

*Be sure to check out my photo galley dude, as you will find excellent pics that I took while in the audience at Davy's 4th day @ Epcot this year.
