FELIPE TORRES Drums/Percussion/Backing Vocal Performance /Recording Artist/Clinician Felipe proudlyendorses DDRUM, Amedia Cymbals, Vic Firth, KICKPORT, Maxonix, and Evans Drumheads, Rhythm Tech, Beato Bags, and Drum Wallet. He has performed clinics, recorded, instructed, and/or played all the around the USA, Japan, and Canada, as well as appearing on The CBS Morning Show, TV Land, The Biography Channel, The Modern Drummer Festival 2008 and has had his articles published on the Evans and Vic Firth websites Felipe was born in Germany, spent his childhood in Colombia until age four, and the last 24 years in the NYC area. He started playing drums at 14 with a private teacher, and in high school played in every group he could—from marching band to chorus—and was voted Band President by senior year. It was that year that Felipe started taking lessons at New York City’s Drummers Collective with such notables as Sandy Gennaro, Mike Clark, Ian Froman, Guy Licata, Vince Cherico, and Gary Kelly. Through the years in the New York area, Felipe also studied privately with Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez, Robby Ameen, Matt Johnson, Kenny Aronoff, Carmine Appice, Billy Ward, and Joe Ascione. Felipe has been playing drums professionally for the last 15 years. He has done US and Canada tours with Dreamworks artists OURS, Road Runner Records blues artist Peter Karp, and the Roadshow and jump/jazz band Jumptime, Lizard King Records rock band Surefire, The Monkees, and Chubby Checker—for the last few years as drummer/back-up vocalist for the Davy Jones Band. He is also currently in the original progressive/fusion/rock trio In Musth, playing with New York’s own Jerry Cherry, Senator, New Jersey’s premier Horror/Rockabilly band Dead Elvi, and completing the first double album with double drum set menace, TSN. As a session drummer, Felipe prides himself on his instincts as to what the music needs, for any style or performer. It's never about "Him." That makes him a great musician, besides being extremely easy to work with as a person. Teaching for the last 15 years has also let Felipe to start performing clinics around the country as well as produce his own online video series, Flip of the Week. He specializes in teaching beginners on drumset and orchestral percussion, reading, rudiments, and various styles of music. For lessons and much more please check out Felipe’s YouTube channel and his myspace page.
