Jerry Boweh ( EUJAY)founded Zuba in 1997 who is the current JTP African best album 2006 Award winner. He comes from a cast of musicians in Liberia's Grand Bassa county, where his grand-uncle is still a legend of Liberia's music scene. Jerry passionate and fully involve in the Rehabilitation of the Liberian Youth since the end of the Long Civil war, using music, sport, arts, drama and film-making, as an avenue for the young people to express themselves and to rebuilt their lives.
Jerry current project is to promote the new music research on Bassa Beat Records based on the history of the BASSA Nation, from Mozambique to Liberia, where the Bassa (Kwa) group is well known. of their rhythms, melody and soul which is the root of the modern FUNK?SOUL. This new idea of music go beyond the Zuba vibes and includes Bassa House, Bassa Soul, Bassa Jungle, Bassa Gospel, Bassa Funk etc.
Jerry holds a Master degree in Process Engineering, BSc in Medical Physics and BA in Youth and Community studies. He is presently researching for the 200 Remembrance of the Abolition of Slavery, a topic very close to the founding and existence of his home county Liberia.
Jerry conducts the Glasgow Gospel Choir, which he formed in 1998, a non religious group that have very popular with radios, TV and various venues and occasions including, awards, prison visits, concerts and major clubs, Festivals, National and international events in Scotland, UK.
Jerry, a Liberian political exile granted indefinite right to
remain in the UK, has been at the forefront of Glasgow's refugee support movement for the past 4 years. He was part of the "I belong to Glasgow" campaign against segregation and his photo wearing a kilt is the Refugee Week emblem in Glasgow, UK. He launched the registered charity AYDAP (African Youth Development Action Project) in 2005.
Jerry have played and supported, Lamar, SOUL Solid crew, Papa Wemba, Feme, Mano Chio, Alpha Bondy, plus more. However his newly researched idea for Bassa Beat have given him a full night at the New Club in Glasgow for the Launching of Bassa Beat. Jerry promote peace, integration, cross-cultural education and tolerance.
