Influences
Ralph Mooney, the pedal steel behind Waylon Jennings....and Waylon too I s'pose! Floyd Westerman and his awesome 1973 album Custer Died For Your Sins. Russ Gurr the Saskatchewan farmer and his 1968 album Federal Grain Train. Nearly everything Stompin Tom Connors ever did! Wade Hemsworth who wrote the Blackfly song. Barney McCaffrey the Catholic anarchist in the Ottawa Valley who wrote Wilno Express album in 1977. Punk rock as taught to me by Warren Spider Hastings. Country living as taught to me by my folks!
Oh yeah, Woody Guthrie, Utah Philips, Joe Hill, Anne Feeney, Harry McClintock and all the Industrial Workers of the World who wrote a picketline song to defend the working class!
Sounds Like
We sound like the spirit of rebellion, like a psychobilly freakout, like apocalyptic klezmer blues, like a fighting folk song, we sound like punk rock in 1935. We sound different every show because there are so many varying factors. There are dozens of different songs played by different line-ups of musicians of different levels of sobriety. Sometimes we are folky, sometimes we are country, sometimes we are loud, sometimes we sound really friggin tripped out and we accidentally blow a bunch of people minds while we jam hard. Sometimes my voice is deeper than Cash's, sometimes it is all scratchy and hoarse from living hard. You really just gotta keep checking our shows out!

ABOUT DR.JOEY ONLY:
Nobody owns Joey Only. He plays by his own rules and is going where he wants to go in his young life. At nearly 30 years old he's been in towns from one side of Canada to the other and after 400 shows in the last four years he is still not interested in touring the United States. He plays solo shows but also has a seven piece band called JOEY ONLY OUTLAW BAND. He is a regular contributor to BC MUSICIAN MAGAZINE and has hosted Sound Resistance on Vancouver's Co-operative Radio Station CFRO 102.7FM (www.coopradio) for five years. He is best known as a song writer but is also a studio musician capable of playing pedal steel guitar, drums, percussion, upright bass, electric bass, harmonica's, electric guitars, acoustic guitars and all manner of vocal arrangements.
He's climbed over 70 mountains, photographed several tornadoes, been struck by lightning, nearly died of TB, had vocal surgery, smashed his face, been lost in the barrens, taught wilderness surival, been to jail, publicly deemed a terrorist by Victoria BC police, has been an activist for over 10 years, hitch hiked 30,000km, Greyhounded 40,000km, released four albums, is a punk rock lovin country boy, failed outa University, fought mother bears, loves smoking weed, is a downtown eastside Vancouver healthcare worker, caught an A-Rod homerun ball in 2007 and loves the Toronto Maple Leafs forever. He is a bipolar mind stuck in the body of a genius. He has fans nowhere, but friends and supporters everywhere.
