YANIEL MATOS “Yaniel Matos consegue elevar a mente do ouvinte até a dimensão mais nobre do prazer, um contexto localizado bem longe das nossas ultra codificadas gaiolas mentais”. Assim o definiu o crítico de Jazz Enzo Pavoni da revista Jazz Magazine. Yaniel teve seus primeiros contatos com a música através de sua família e ouvindo a seus tios e avós. Aos oito anos começa a estudar violoncello e piano no conservatório Estevan Sala em Santiago de Cuba até 1994, quando se muda para a Havana onde termina seus estudos de composição no Instituto Superior de Arte, graduado pelos professores Harold Gramatges e Jose Loyola. Em seu pouco tempo em Havana, passa pelas bandas mais prestigiadas do país, tocando junto a músicos como Chucho Valdes, Issac Delgado, Orlando Valles Maraca entre outros, tendo realizado diversas turnês internacionais. Muda-se para o Brasil no ano 2000 e se instala na cidade de São Paulo, cidade que lhe permite estudar e tocar vários estilos e gêneros musicais. Em 2003 forma o Mani Padme Trio junto ao baterista Ricardo Mosca e ao baixista Du Moreira, e grava seu primeiro CD “Um Dia de Chuva”. Lançado aqui no Brasil com distribuição da Tratore e na Itália pela gravadora Red Records (www.redrec.net), o CD é uma comovente mistura dos sotaques cubano e brasileiro no reino do jazz latino. O segundo CD do Mani Padme Trio, “Depois” é lançado em 2007, sendo o baixista Du Moreira substituído por Zeca Assumpção e tendo como convidado no sax e flauta Teço Cardoso. No ano de 2006 Yaniel cria o grupo denominado “Cuba Jazz Plus”, quinteto de jazz contemporâneo formado por jazzistas cubanos, sendo certo que Yosvany Terry (sax), Dafnis Prieto (bateria), Yunior Terry (baixo), residem em Nova York e Julio Padron (trompete) em Cuba. Este quinteto apresentou-se em várias cidades brasileiras com tremendo sucesso. Yaniel apresenta-se como trio, quarteto, quinteto, e solo, e mostra uma síntese de sua vivência cubana no Brasil, em uma linguagem bem jazzística, cheia de cores e sons descritivos, procurando novas sonoridades. Yaniel já tocou e gravou junto a Carlinhos Brown, Kiko Loureiro, Angra, Timbalada, Heartbreak, Jane Brunnett, Lenine, e Antonio Pinto, entre outros. YANIEL MATOS “Yaniel Matos can elevate the mind of the listener to the noblest dimension of pleasure in a context far from our ultra coded caged minds.” This is the critical set of Enzo Pavoni, from Jazz Magazine (Italy). Yaniel had his first contacts with music through his family, listening to his uncles and grandparents. At eight years old he began to study violoncello and piano at the Estevan Sala Conservatory of Cuba and in 1994 he moved to Havana, where he finished his studies of composition at the Superior Arts Institute, being graded by the teachers Harold Gramatges and Jose Loyola. In the short time that he spent in Havana, he played with some of the most prestigious band of the country, performing with musicians like Chucho Valdes, Isaac Delgado, Orlando Valles Maraca and many others, traveling to several international tours. Yaniel moved to Brazil in 2000 and settled in São Paulo, a city that allows him to study and play different styles and music genres. In 2003 he started the Mani Padme Trio along with the drummer Ricardo Mosca and Du Moreira, the bass player, recording their first CD “Um dia de chuva” (“A day of rain”). Released in Brazil by Tratore and in Italy by Red Records record (www.redrec.net), this CD is a touching mixture of the Brazilian and Cuban accents in the latin jazz world. The second CD of Mani Padme Trio, “Depois” (“After”) was released in 2007 by the same Red Records, but with a different bass player, having Zeca Assumpção instead of Du Moreira and taking as a guest Teco Cardoso, who played the flute and sax. In 2006, Yaniel created a group called “Cuba Jazz Plus”, a contemporary jazz quintet formed by excellent Cuban jazz musicians, given that Yosvany Terry (sax), Dafnis Prieto (drums), Yunior Terry (bass), live in New York and Julio Padron (trumpet) in Cuba. This quintet performed in many Brazilian cities with tremendous success. Yaniel, who has played and recorded with musicians like Carlinhos Brown, Célia Cruz, Kiko Loureiro, Angra, Timbalada, Heartbreakers, Jane Brunnett, Lenine, Los Jubilados, Antonio Pinto, Rosário Flores, amongst others.
