In 1976, Vic Godard & members of what became the Subway Sect were encouraged to form a band by Malcolm McLaren for the 100 Club Punk Festival, which also featured the Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Buzzcocks, Siouxsie & the Banshees and The Vibrators, despite lacking rehearsals and musical experience. The Subway Sect turned out to be one of the most original and innovative bands to have emerged from the festival.
The Wave Pictures return to Cardiff as part of their first official tour of the UK / France, bringing along with them fellow Smoking Gun artist Lisa Li-Lund, who brought Dempseys to a complete standstill when she supported Schwervon! for Twisted / Loose last year. Also featuring anti-folk from Brighton in the shape of The Bobby McGees (regularly appearing on the Huw & Beth show) and King! – a singer /guitarist and his glockenspiel, singing about beards and finger-painting.

Oxjam Cardiff Chill reaches its climax and conclusion as its Grand Finale takes place this Friday (20 October) at O'Neill's (The Hayes) from 8pm. Tickets are £3 on the door and all proceeds go to Oxfam.
This week local talents including Walker, The Stanley Band and Juliet Sleeps will be taking to the stage and entertaining us.
There will also be a raffle with prizes such as a month's bus pass on Cardiff Bus, a pair of tickets to "Just So" at the Wales Millennium Centre as part of the Cardiff International Festival of Musical Theatre and a £10 Peacocks gift voucher plus many more. It costs £1 a strip and remember that you have to be in it to win it!
