A southern New Jersey native, 22-year-old Zach Caruso is a guitarist/singer/songwriter whose love of music began at an early age. A self-taught guitarist, he began singing and writing his own original music by the age of 14. Zach identifies Green Day as the first band to establish his interest in rock music, and cites acts such as The John Butler Trio and Ben Harper as later sparking his interest in acoustic rock.
His eclectic blend of musical styles and influences sets him apart from his peers, and he has avoided being boxed into any one specific genre. His love of electric, acoustic, and slide guitar has allowed him to create a variety of fresh sounds that differ, but are still unique to his style.
Starting in October 2007, Zach began work on a four track demo that consisted of "Jet Plane", "Hotel Illness", "Jesus Walks", and a cover of "House of the Rising Sun". The demo later evolved into a full-length album. Recording over the span of nine months, he spent time at Jamland Studio in Wilmington, DE as well as Railroad Track Studios in Newfield, NJ. The album Body & Soul was released in October 2008.
In January 2009, the music video for "Jesus Walks", a song written about the record-breaking murder rate in Philadelphia, PA, was released. Filming began in November 2008, and at the helm was Zach's longtime friend Brad Kingett, owner and operator of Risen Industries, a videography/filmmaking company based in Sewell, New Jersey. Brad filmed and directed the video which was shot on location in Philadelphia over the course of eight weeks.
Zach is also the in-house musician at the Collingswood restaurant Woksabi, located at 610 Haddon Avenue. You can catch him there every Friday and Saturday night playing an acoustic set from 6-9pm.
