Hey everybody! I’m a newly-signed staff writer at Big Yellow Dog Music in Nashville, and I’m having a blast writing songs for a living.
I grew up in Abilene TX, Lexington KY, Parkersburg WV, and Thousand Oaks CA. I went to Abilene Christian University for school and met my wife Jodi there. We’ve been happily married for almost 8 years now! We moved to Nashville in 1999 and I spent a year substitute teaching before getting on the college coffeehouse circuit, which paid our bills for six years. Jodi and I had a lot of fun traveling the country together and I made a lot of great fans performing at over 450 colleges. Over time, my priorities changed from wanting to "make it" as a recording artist to wanting a successful songwriting career. That’s how I ended up at Big Yellow Dog! (The short version, anyway.)
What you hear above are some of my latest songs, demoed up for the mainstream country market. If you’d like to hear my indie album, which is much more acoustic and rootsy, you can preview it and buy it at CD Baby. I’m very proud of that as well. I’m also working on putting together a web page where you can listen to all of my songs, old and new, all in one player.
That said, I am trying to spend more time on music and less time on the computer, so I can’t promise I’ll respond to every comment and message that I get. But I definitely read and appreciate them all!! I’m so thankful to do what I do, and thankful to you all for your support. I always write my songs with you in mind, hoping that you’ll be encouraged and entertained by what you hear. Peace,
You prove here and now why you deserve to be a signed songwriter with your new songs once again. You also bring a real legitimacy to the John Lennon Songwriting contest and set a benchmark for wannabe signed songwriters such as myself.. What is unbelievable to me is that you don't have a record deal.. It's your voice that makes those demos shine..They shouldn't even be called demos..especially when you sing them.. There is a no BS quality in your vocals..Genuine..Real
So just now that sparked me to buy a copy of Hurry Home..Don't know why I didn't earlier..
Thank you very much for the friendship, we are extremely honoured! ~Drop on by anytime you like for some moonshine & music~ You're always welcome here!
ever your friends, the Appalachian Roots, Rock & Blues Society
I heard you play a couple of years ago at faulkner university in Montgomery, Alabama. I bought your cd then. since then I've everybody I've introduced to your music has really liked it. (especially the "worst case scenario")I like the new songs man. keep up the good work.
Just trying to comment everyone I want to and I am leaveing you a comment.I might let my mom comment you sometime and you and her can talk a little bit.
Sounds like a great life! I'm in Cali visiting family and friends. Dave became a father last month so I am here to see my very first nephew-very exciting. We're all doing very well. Oh and I bought a house-just waiting for it to be built :)
Hi Zane! I was leaving the gym last night when one of your songs started to play on my ipod and I thought to myself... How is Zane and his lovely wife? So tell, how are you guys?
Congratulations....again! 2 lightning strikes? Could it really happen? I checked out the competition. Doesn't hold a "flame" haha! I just made that up. Sweet.
CONGRATULATIONS! I was so excited to check the winners and see that you WON! I am so glad that you are getting the recognition that you so truly deserve.
Good luck fellow Maxell Song of Year winner. I'll have to talk to the JLSC people about why the change and having the public vote now, I am curious.
I know when I won the public didn't vote and there were over 30,000 entries but I think that has changed too. I think your song is very strong and you have a great chance of winning again. They are a great organization and winning help me to sell many, many CDs at the time. :D
Thanks so much!! I LOVE your music...I had been wanting to see you around town for a while and finally got to last week at tin pan...you were amazing!!!!! Hope to see you again soon! ~Emily:-) p.s. I voted for your song!!!
Zane, I'm so excited to have seen you outside 3rd and Lindsley! I wish I could have caught your show. I'll be back in town in June or July, maybe we can grab some coffee then. Lovin the new stuff! Joy
