ZIZZA (Drums) - Provider of band name, beater of drum beats, man of spiritual peace, mysticism and baseball caps. Does shuffle good. DELLI(Guitars) - When not playing guitars Delli plays; mandolin, bass, ukulele, keyboards, trumpet, saxophone, drums, various body parts. Some he even plays well. RUTH (Saxophone) - Flame haired sax chick, giver of the impression of sanity, player of funny jazzy bits for Maltese Ska community. Female. CHALEE (Bass) - Man of culture, wit, literary legerdemain, writer of MySpace whateverthisis, artful seducer, peddler of adjectives, ravishingly good looking E-string pumper. Also modest.
Zizza Ensemble is an angular Funk foursome with a cartoonish swagger and a wicked streak. We play an (inevitably) eclectic mix of Funk, Jazz, Ska and Rock - a concotion which has been described to us, sometimes by people not entirely inebriated, as being 'Punk Jazz', 'Ska Funk' or just plain nuts.
Zizza Ensemble's first incarnation dates back to a couple of years ago, when a handful of young people with an interest in swing and bossa nova styles decided to put together a band. We eventually grew disillusioned with our musical direction, so we ditched the jazz standards and jam-numbers and started replacing them with the afore mentioned psychofunk. We are going through the (long, laborious and monstrously expensive) process of building up and recording material for our debut album.
Next Saturday, 13th June X-Vandals shall be hitting the stage at Remedy for the release of their 2nd CD entitled "Breach The Silence". It will also be the nite who shall feature our new entry, Mark Zlayer as our second guitarist.
