About ZonaSun - Reggae Music Outa Di South Switzerland

Drawing on the roots of the genre
as well as on the surrounding
atmosphere and social situation,
ZonaSun plays a roots and, at the
same time, modern reggae music,
with a special care to melody,
conscious lyrics and
experimentation. The vibe is most of
all sunny (which fully mirrors the
name of the band) but also mystic,
expressive and dragging.
In 2003, beginning as a duo, starts the ZonaSun project. The lyrics,
partially written in Italian and partially in English, go with reggae/ragga
riddims created with samplers and sequencers. However, the final aim of the
project has always been that of creating a tight-knit cheery band that could
be musically complete and could give to the songs that certain vital energy
that usually streams from live played instruments. That’s how, in 2004,
ZonaSun becomes an effective reggae band.
Lead voice, back vocals, keyboards; guitar, bass, drums, sax, flute and
electronic sound effects are the ingredients that contribute to create the
typical sound of ZonaSun.
In 2006 the group participated to the final round of the “European Raggae
Contest” at “Rototom Sun Splash festival“ (Italy) and in 2008, the crowd and
the professional jury of “Palco ai giovani” contest in Lugano (Switzerland)
have honoured ZonaSun with the first place.
Finally, in May 2008, ZonaSun also released his first album called
“Subliminal Love”, with 9 original songs and a dub remix. Some of the songs
are also playing on swiss radios. This first album marks an important step in
the growth of the band, which is now working on his second studio CD,
announced for the second half of 2010.
The feeling is that now ZonaSun has acquired the potential and the needed
experience – in 2009 the band played on the stage of “Winter Splash” in
Venezia (Italy), “La Fête de la Musique” in Lausanne (Switzerland), “Démon
D’Or Festival” in Lyon (France) and “Reeds Fetival” in Pfäffikon (Switzerland)
– to step into the Swiss reggae scene and spread out musical vibes even
abroad.

Attingendo dalle radici del genere, ma
anche dalla società e dall'ambiente
circostante, ZonaSun suona un reggae
d’autore, allo stesso tempo roots e
moderno, con un occhio di riguardo per
melodie orecchiabili, liriche “conscious” e
contaminazioni. Un suono, prima di tutto
solare, caratteristica espressa anche nel
nome stesso della band, ma anche
espressivo, grintoso e trascinante.
Nel 2003, inizialmente come duo, parte il progetto ZonaSun, con testi scritti parte
in italiano e parte in inglese e basi reggae/ragga prodotte con campionatori e
sequencer. Lo scopo finale del progetto è però sempre stato quello di formare una
band completa, un collettivo affiatato e solare che potesse dare ai brani composti
quella botta di vita e quell'energia in più, tipiche degli strumenti suonati dal vivo. Così
dal 2004 ZonaSun diventa una band reggae a tutti gli effetti.
Voce principale, cori, tastiere, chitarra, basso, batteria, sax, flauto traverso ed
effetti elettronici sono gli ingredienti che, tutti assieme, contribuiscono a creare il
tipico suono ZonaSun.
Nel 2006 il gruppo ha partecipato alle finali del “European Reggae Contest” al
Rototom Sun Splash festival e nel 2008, il pubblico e la giuria di qualità del concorso
“Palco ai giovani” a Lugano hanno premiato ZonaSun con il primo posto.
Finalmente, nel maggio 2008, ZonaSun ha anche pubblicato il suo primo album
intitolato “Subliminal Love” e composto da 9 brani originali e un remix dub. Alcuni dei
brani sono in programmazione sulle maggiori radio svizzere. Il primo album segna un
importante passo nel cammino della band, che ora sta lavorando al suo secondo
disco da studio, in uscita nella seconda metà del 2010.
Ora la sensazione è che ZonaSun abbia il potenziale e l’esperienza necessaria –
nel 2009 la band ha suonato su vari palchi, tra cui quelli di “Winter Splash” a Venezia
(Italia), “La Fête de la Musique” a Lausanne (Svizzera), “Démon D’Or Festival” a
Lyon (Francia) e “Reeds Fetival” a Pfäffikon (Svizzera) – per guadagnarsi un posto
nella scena reggae svizzera, dando finalmente voce alla realtà in levare della regione
italofona di questo paese e per diffondere la sua vibra positiva anche all’estero.
