in brief :
i'm a dj, musician, and artist. i like to ride my bicycle. i like to ride my bike.
i've been a professional dj for 13 years, playing general business events (weddings, corporate parties, colleges) along with my nightclub and touring endeavors... at the Festival of the Dead events, as a rotation dj at Ceremony, as former 7 year resident doomjockey & coproducer of Haven and a featured headlining dj at the famously infamous ManRay i've been known to play a broad mix of gothic and industrial favorites, blended with 80's new wave, triphop, synth/electro/future pop, and modern electronica. i've also played strip clubs, hip-hop and house clubs, progressive electronics nights, festivals - with over 2000 gigs in dozens of cities under my belt, i've seen a lot!
my primary focus is on musicianship and danceability - i tend to shy away from playing "dj tracks", preferring to play songs and mixes that are danceable, intelligent, and especially fun! i'm a strong supporter of independent music and local talent, and search the world for new and exciting music - i often include unreleased or new material in my club sets. download some mixes here!
a musician myself, i've worked with a number of acts producing and promoting live concerts, benefit events and remixing. some artists have included #1 Billboard chart toppers the Cruxshadows, Rasputina, Ego Likeness, the Dresden Dolls, Voltaire, Sister Machine Gun, Razed In Black, ThouShaltNot, Incus, Imperative Reaction, Battery Cage, You Shriek, Bella Morte, Fluttr Effect and many more.
my original song "Could It Be" reached the top ten on the Myspace Gothic and Glam unsigned artist charts and the top 40 on the Electro chart. the track was first released on the "Owen Tate 06.06.06" compilation cd (BoyBall Records) - centering on the theme of equal marriage rights in the face of faith based dicrimination, the 06.06.06 disc is dedicated to Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist who attempted to amend the US Constitution to ban gay marriage on June 6th, 2006 (article about that here). the disc is a limited release, features 13 tracks, and is available online at the-blessed.com for $10.
artistically (visually), my primary medium is photography (black and white, silver gelatin and more recently digital). my work has been featured in exhibits at the likes of CBGB's 313 Gallery, ManRay, and Vibes Gallery (among many others), in numerous online fine arts publications, the Boston Globe, and as section covers in the Boston Phoenix. i've also curated a number of nightclub, special event, and gallery art shows drawing from the top talents in the New England underground.

other stuff :
i'm an avid reader, especially books that are very literary and/or charecter driven (ie Irving, Dahl, and Nabokov), socially conscious (Orwell, Bradbury, Robbins, Vonnegut), and/or constructually ground breaking (Quinn!). i also enjoy a great deal of "nonfiction" - anthropology, true histories, mythology, environmental sciences, progressive ideaology, psychology, music, world cultures, occasionally a biography, and art art art art art. so send me a book that means something to you! ;)
speaking mostly painterly, my top 5 favorite artistic idioms (past) are the bauhaus, the impressionists, the symbolists, the surrealists, and the expressionists (der most holy Blau Reiter). also the f64 group and early Vogue, to include some photography other than bauhaus and surrealism, and art noveau as a tie with something. my favorite photographer/printmakers so far are Edward Weston, Clarence John Laughlin, and (surprise!) Alphonse Mucha. i could list on for ages, as could i with painters - my favorites at this writing lean to Franz Marc, Wassily Kandinsky, Charles Sheeler, Gustav Klimt, Paul Delvaux...
i'm a practicing vegan with noticable influence of macrobiotic theory, which is one of the many reasons i love Northampton, Massachusetts. there's a vegetarian menu at nearly every restaurant in town, and to top all of them - Bela! :D my main reasons for eating vegan are based on industry practices, environmental impact, and chemical additives (pesticides, gmos, rBGH). i won't eat anything with saturated fats either, or msg, or high frustose corn syrup, or most preservatives - but i will eat fresh organic cage free eggs. yes, i also like "eating healthy", and i am also a believer in animal rights, the latter from a more non-speciecentric gaia theory position than a PeTA one.
i love the cities and nightclubs and all, but i suffer without regular exposure to organic lifeforms other than humans... by which i mean trees, mostly. i love the ocean but won't go in unless the water is warm, which never happens in new england.
i'm very concerned about issues like human over population, enviromental toxicity, the extinction catasrophe, the carbon cycle, corporate controlled government (wto, monsanto, haliburton, etc), dissemination of information (clear channel), invasion of privacy and civil rights (patriot act), military spending, the swallowing of local economies by massive chain discounters, and well, lots of stuff like that.
it all adds up.
favorite numbers :
12:34 (wish number) and phi.
if you buy this record, your life will be better.

Who I'd like to meet:
musicians, models, designers, artists, and friends!
bands please note - i'm not into a lot of heavy distorted vocals, black metal, or grindcore. also not into generic tech house, ebm, and that sort of thing... i prefer music that is melodic and has an original/unique sound, so much the better if it's got a good dance beat and emotional vocals! please see my faves!
...and please send me a message if you'd like me to add you. :)
