WAHALA special FELA's BOYS
London’s Camden Town is a sea of entertainment, overflowing with colorful markets, shops, restaurants, bars, pubs, clubs, theatres and cinemas. At its centre, the Proud Gallery, located in the 200-year-old Grad II Listed Horse Hospital in the ever popular Camden Stables Market.
This is our destination for this week, people!! PROUD Gallery is a truly unique venue, photographic gallery by day; the venue is transformed into a live music venue by night. This is where the whole London Afro scene chose to gathered on a summery Monday evening for a special multi-disciplinary event, celebrating the legacy of the late Fela Anikulapo Kuti.
The night, dubbed FELA’s BOYS, showcased dance with Bode Lawal, music from the London Afrobeat Collective, Wale Ojo, Richards Olutunde, SES, Inemo and Wahala’s host, DJ Eric Soul
Post-Modern WAHALA by Keziah Jones.
A strange creature between Miles Davis, Fela Kuti and Jimmy Hendricks, the original African Anarchist Keziah Jones has just released his fourth studio album Nigerian Wood (Because Music). With a successful international career spanning 2 decades, the world has yet to catch up with him and his unique brand of music he calls BLUFUNK.
Even though the continent is already a massive fan, the UK is lagging way behind on this one, just because marketing a lyrically gifted African man with a guitar still challenges perceptions and understanding of black music. Wahala gets it! We go to capture the action live during Jones' rare appearance at the London's Jazz Cafe.
We also meet the new generation of Nigerian movers n shakers with artist Bumi Thomas and cultural entrepreneur Yemi from Afro Pop Live.
WAHALA brings you Soul Power feat James Brown and Mohamed Ali
Zaire 1974, Hugh Masekela and Stewart Levine dared to dream and a music festival became a reality when they convinced boxing promoter Don King to combine the event with “The Rumble in the Jungle,” the epic fight between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman.
The historical moment was captured for TV, Hollywood. Later in the years, even the Fugees paid tribute to the event. Besides the fight, Marechal Mobutu Sese Seko’s country also hosted a massive and ground-breaking event that brought Latin American, US and African artists on the same stage for a unifying celebration of Black culture & music. From Bill Withers to Fania All Stars, Tabu Ley, Miriam Makeba and James Brown...
WAHALA goes to the exclusive screening at the Electric Cinema in Portobello Road and the special after-party produced by PUT ME ON IT and SHOOK Magazine ...

We investigate and meet the crew behind the biggest KIZOMBA party in the UK - Meet KIZOMBA UK promoters, dance teachers and hot DJs, and learn a few steps along the way...
WAHALA also unleashes exclusive Afro videos, including the new single, empowering anthem by Knaan TIA and Mbegane Ndour (African Conscience) feat Hakeem (The Boys) Jaam + Mpho and more...
Afrobeat and the Art of Lemi Ghariokwu
For twenty years, renowned artist Lemi Ghariokwu’s colourful paintings were found wrapped around the music of Nigeria’s most charismatic and notorious musician, Fela Kuti. Lemi’s distinctive images of Africa – angry, sexy, cheeky, righteous – were known and owned by hundreds of thousands of people across three continents. Feat Tony Allen, Wunmi, Rich Medina etc...
WAHALA goes to Shoreditch
Shoreditch is one of the most vibrant places in London. Located north of the city's financial district, its a real concentration of creative and leisure activites being home to live venues, bars, restaurants, exhibition spaces and recording, graphic and media studios.
