Alela Diane Menig- and magic has happened with: Dad- Tom Menig on Mandolin or Slide, Tom Bevitori on Bass, Mariee Sioux with her lovely voice, Alina Hardin's angel voice, Matt Bauer on Banjo, Michael Hurley's knee fiddle and my favorite duet, Otto Hauser's Percussion, Neal Morgan! Benjamin Oak Goodman! Many friends make sound! I thank them for making it with me.
Influences
My parents singing in the kitchen- I'd wake to hear their songs- I'd fall asleep to them. Also, things heard when I was tiny--"Kate Wolf"- more folks should know her songs-they really speak for California. Old tapes of "Patsy Kline." Lindsey and I would sing along to "The Shangrilas." I thought my parents were listening to "Graceland" before any of my other friends, but I think Mariee's family must have beat us too it.

The pines have my heart & I keep running back.

Oh my gawd- you were in a dream I had last night! So we were taking this radio technology class together (I was wearing pink fur skinny jeans) & you were really tan & psyched & you said you'd gone surfing & it was all you could think about now. I said look out because in surf documentaries people talk about just wanting to surf all the time & at the end you were waving your radio kit in the air & making these wooshing noises like the radio was surfing. Awesome!
Alela, i just saw your performance for the BBC of To Be Still and it was just as wonderful and beautiful as always. You looked so beautiful too Alela & i loved your new hair-style.
Hope you had a nice time and i can't wait to see you at End of the Road Festival in september! Things like that MATTER to me! :) x Peace, love & plenty. x
